HEAT SETTLE ON SIXERS SQUAD
The Brisbane Heat has added rising left-arm paceman Oli Patterson to its squad for tomorrow night’s must-win KFC Big Bash League match against the Sydney Sixers at a sold-out Gabba.
Patterson joins the squad of 14 to prepare for tomorrow's season-defining game that will see the victor finish fourth and progress to the BBL|15 Finals next week.
The 20-year-old played in their Coffs Harbour clash against the Sixers earlier this month, taking two wickets including that of Pakistan star Babar Azam, as the Heat almost won a thriller.
Brisbane come into tomorrow's return bout with the Sixers fresh from its final over heroics against the defending champion Hobart Hurricanes earlier this week when they successfully defended their total of 160 thanks to a brilliant over from Pakistan quick Zaman Khan.
Big Bash League 2026 results: Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith and Sam Curran put Sydney Sixers in play-offs
Sydney Sixers secured second-place in the Big Bash League and their spot in Tuesday's qualifier match with a five-wicket win over Brisbane Heat.
Heat, who could have qualified for the play-offs at Sixers' expense with a win, finish fifth despite scoring 171-9 in a first innings where Mitchell Starc took 4-35.
Sixers batters Steve Smith and Sam Curran both made half-centuries and put on 60 for the fourth wicket, with their side passing their target in the penultimate over of the innings.
Nathan McSweeney top-scored for Heat after they were put into bat, hitting an unbeaten 69 from number three.
McSweeney added 48 with Michael Neser (35) for the seventh wicket, but saw other partners fall cheaply with no other Heat batter passing 20.
