Christchurch Airport announces new direct flights to Vanuatu with Solomon Airlines
Christchurch, New Zealand – South Island travellers will soon be able to swap winter woollies for tropical sunshine, with Solomon Airlines launching a new direct service from Christchurch to Port Vila (Vanuatu) from 1 July 2026.
The new route will be the first time there has been a commercial scheduled flight to Vanuatu from Christchurch, it will operate twice weekly on Thursday and Sunday departing Christchurch in the morning and will be flown by an Airbus A320-200. The direct flight is expected to take around four hours, delivering South Islanders straight into the heart of the South Pacific to a getaway packed with warm weather, adventure, and island hospitality.

Trans-Tasman services are exclusively offered from Hamilton International Airport (HLZ), Queenstown Airport (ZQN), and Dunedin (DUD).

Solomon Airlines to start new Christchurch route

On 30 March the airline will start new services to New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Australia.
It will reestablish weekly flights between Honiara and Port Vila with an Auckland/Vila connection.
A new weekly flight between Honiara and Port Moresby will be launching on 31 March to allow connections to China Southern and other carriers flying to and from Asia.
The new twice-weekly connection between Christchurch and Port Vila will begin on 1 July.
The airline will also be adding extra flights on its Brisbane to Santo and Auckland to Port Vila services.
