Olympics ‘money pot’ attracted Victorian underworld to Qld, inquiry suspects
Senior Counsel Assisting Patrick Wheelahan KC and Commissioner Stuart Wood allege the M1 Traffic Control Qld Pty Ltd company uses "dummy directors" to hide its true ownership. (ABC News)
A south-east Queensland business is suspected by Queensland's CFMEU inquiry of having ties to Victorian underworld figure Mick Gatto.
Commissioner Stuart Wood and Senior Counsel Assisting Patrick Wheelahan KC called journalists to a depot used by M1 Traffic Control QLD Pty Ltd on the Gold Coast to air their allegations and appeal for further information.
The Gold Coast business is an expansion of the Victorian M Group, which was dressed down in anti-corruption barrister Geoffrey Watson SC's landmark report last year for its "crude" attempts to hide links to Mr Gatto.

A Victorian industrial watchdog is moving to shut down the operations of a major labour hire firm closely linked to gangland figure Mick Gatto which has won lucrative contracts across the state’s $100 billion Big Build scheme.
Victoria’s Labour Hire Authority confirmed on Wednesday that it had taken steps to issue a notice to a subsidiary of the M Group flagging its intention to cancel the firm’s labor hire licence.
M Group supplies labour hire and traffic management workers across major Victorian sites including several taxpayer-funded projects, and the cancellation of the licence of one of the company’s subsidiaries could trigger cancellation of the licences of other entities in the group.

Gatto-linked firm approved for Victoria water contracts
A Queensland inquiry into the CFMEU has launched an investigation into an allegedly Mick Gatto-linked traffic and labour hire company, which is working on Victoria’s Big Build, was an approved contractor for state water projects and recently set up offices on the Gold Coast.
Commissioner Stuart Wood, KC, and counsel assisting Patrick Wheelahan, KC, took the unusual step of holding a press conference on Wednesday outside M1 Traffic Control Queensland’s Gold Coast address, where they called for people to come forward with information on the firm, saying it had “similar features” to Victorian-based M Group which an earlier investigation found was linked to Gatto.
