Alysa Liu Skated to Laufey at the Olympics — Now She’s Starring In the Singer’s Music Video

If you thought Alysa Liu’s 2026 Winter Olympics run was the peak of her crossover moment, you missed what just dropped on TikTok.

Liu, the figure skater who captivated audiences in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo with two gold medals, appeared in a video posted April 7 alongside Icelandic singer Laufey. The two danced to “Stateside” by PinkPantheress — the same song Liu used for her free skate at the Olympics.

The post drew reactions from fans, musicians and public figures, including a comment from PinkPantheress herself and a response from the U.S. Figure Skating account.

Who Is Alysa Liu? What to Know About 2026 Olympic Gold Medal Winner’s Comeback Story

Singer Laufey and Olympian Alysa Liu Dress as '60s Bombshells for Viral TikTok Dance

When it comes to sports and pop culture, I have two genuine interests: figure skating and classical music. Can I fill out a March Madness bracket with any degree of accuracy? Absolutely not. But can I differentiate a triple lutz from a triple flip? In my sleep. And when I'm not listening to my '70s rock playlist (it reminds me of my dad), I'm queuing up both traditional and reinterpreted classical music. So when Laufey—jazz/pop/classical doyenne—and Alysa Liu—reigning Olympic figure skating champion—appeared on my social media doing a viral dance, I immediately stopped scrolling.

Heated Rivalry’s Hudson Williams is a ‘madman’ in this new music video

Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams latest project is playing a madman in Laufey’s music video.

The enemies-to-lovers ice hockey show was a massive hit, thrusting Williams and his co-stars – Connor Storrie, François Arnaud and Robbie GK – into the spotlight. There has been a lot of talk about what the actors’ next project will be.

While we wait for season two of the show, Williams has shared details about one of his new projects, which is being released very soon.

Williams will be one of the stars in 26-year-old Icelandic singer and songwriter Laufey’s next music video. It seems he’ll be dropping the sweetness of Shane Hollander for an intense “madman” vibe.

Olympics ‘money pot’ attracted Victorian underworld to Qld, inquiry suspects

Senior Counsel Assisting Patrick Wheelahan KC and Commissioner Stuart Wood allege the M1 Traffic Control Qld Pty Ltd company uses "dummy directors" to hide its true ownership. (ABC News)

A south-east Queensland business is suspected by Queensland's CFMEU inquiry of having ties to Victorian underworld figure Mick Gatto.

Commissioner Stuart Wood and Senior Counsel Assisting Patrick Wheelahan KC called journalists to a depot used by M1 Traffic Control QLD Pty Ltd on the Gold Coast to air their allegations and appeal for further information.

The Gold Coast business is an expansion of the Victorian M Group, which was dressed down in anti-corruption barrister Geoffrey Watson SC's landmark report last year for its "crude" attempts to hide links to Mr Gatto.

A Victorian industrial watchdog is moving to shut down the operations of a major labour hire firm closely linked to gangland figure Mick Gatto which has won lucrative contracts across the state’s $100 billion Big Build scheme.

Victoria’s Labour Hire Authority confirmed on Wednesday that it had taken steps to issue a notice to a subsidiary of the M Group flagging its intention to cancel the firm’s labor hire licence.

M Group supplies labour hire and traffic management workers across major Victorian sites including several taxpayer-funded projects, and the cancellation of the licence of one of the company’s subsidiaries could trigger cancellation of the licences of other entities in the group.

Gatto-linked firm approved for Victoria water contracts

A Queensland inquiry into the CFMEU has launched an investigation into an allegedly Mick Gatto-linked traffic and labour hire company, which is working on Victoria’s Big Build, was an approved contractor for state water projects and recently set up offices on the Gold Coast.

Commissioner Stuart Wood, KC, and counsel assisting Patrick Wheelahan, KC, took the unusual step of holding a press conference on Wednesday outside M1 Traffic Control Queensland’s Gold Coast address, where they called for people to come forward with information on the firm, saying it had “similar features” to Victorian-based M Group which an earlier investigation found was linked to Gatto.

Taking a brief switch over the cross country, Sweden’s Ebba Andersson has a huge lead with less than 5km to go. She well away for gold and Heidi Weng has a decent gap for second, but the shake up for bronze could be interesting with five athletes all in with a shout.

Winter Olympics 2026: How Eileen Gu divides opinion

Eileen Gu has won double silver at the 2026 Winter Olympics so far

Wherever Eileen Gu goes, her fans will follow. Headlines will too.

With five medals – and the opportunity for one more on Saturday – she is the most decorated female Olympic freestyle skier in history.

But she is also someone who transcends her sport, a 22-year-old global superstar with a bank balance to make your eyes water.

China fell in love with its 'snow princess' at the Beijing 2022 Olympics where, as the poster girl of the Games, she duly delivered.

She became freestyle skiing's youngest Olympic champion with her big air and halfpipe golds at the age of 18, and the first to win three medals at the same Games when she added slopestyle silver.

Eileen Gu, amid Olympic cameras and controversy, is living in a unique reality – The Athletic

LIVIGNO, Italy — Even if she’s not outwardly courting controversy, it always seems to find her. Eileen Gu is 22 years old, competing in her second Olympic Games, so often at the center of a storm.

“Sometimes I feel like I’m carrying the weight of two countries on my shoulders,” Gu said in Livigno last week, where the freeskier claimed her fifth career medal Monday night with a silver in the women’s big air event. She’s doing so under the glare of one of the most intense spotlights at these Games, but unlike Ilia Malinin, Mikaela Shiffrin and Marco Odermatt, so little of that glare is tied to her performance.

She's passionate about quantum physics, yet is an international studies major at Stanford, although not this year because of the Winter Olympics, where on Monday she won her fifth career medal, a silver in freeski big air. She next competes in the freeski halfpipe finals Saturday.

Brady Tkachuk admits to ‘hatred’ as US and Canada prepare for Olympic men’s ice hockey final

The US and Canada are prepared for a stormy men’s ice hockey final on Sunday as the long-time rivals face off for Winter Olympic gold.

This year’s Olympics mark the first time NHL players have competed at the Winter Games since 2014, meaning many of the best players in the world will face each other on Sunday. While Canada are the betting favourites – and have won the most ice hockey golds in Olympic history – the US players say they have motivation to upset their northern neighbours.

“There’s hatred there,” USA’s Brady Tkachuk told ESPN on Saturday. “I mean, they’ve been the top dog. They’ve been the best for the last bunch of years, and for us, we want to be in that position, be the best. So it’s going to be a game where I think a lot of guys could say, this is the biggest game that they’ve ever played in.”

Mikaela Shiffrin makes her final 2026 Winter Olympics appearance on Wednesday in the slalom.

The most decorated Alpine skier of all time, Shiffrin is the favorite in this race, and she has been dominant in the slalom. This season alone, she has won seven of of eight starts and already clinched her ninth slalom Crystal Globe. However, Shiffrin hasn't medaled in her past eight Olympic starts, setting the stage for potential redemption.

Shiffrin had an outstanding first run on Wednesday morning, and is currently in first place.

American slalom skier Mikaela Shiffrin is one of the sport's best, but when it comes to performing at the Olympic Games in recent times she's succumbed to the pressure. The favorite in slalom, Mikaela Shiffrin aims for Olympic gold

CORTINA D'AMPEZZO, Italy — On Wednesday, Mikaela Shiffrin will enter the start gate of the Olympic slalom as the favorite for gold. On Sunday, she took a giant step toward that result.

Shiffrin was not expected to medal in Sunday's giant slalom. Despite being the 2018 Olympic gold medalist in the event, and the all-time World Cup wins leader, Shiffrin only recently returned to a GS podium in January. Less than a year ago, she didn't know if she would ever stand in another giant slalom start gate.

"After the injury last year and then returning to GS racing, I was so far off," Shiffrin said Sunday. "I felt like there was no hope to be faster."

What is AIN at Olympics? Explaining neutral athletes

MILAN — Officially, Russia is banned from the Olympics because Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. At the 2026 Winter Games in Milano Cortina, there will be no Russian flags, no Russian anthems and no Russian national colors incoporated in the competition. (The same holds true for Belarus, which has supported Russia in the war.)

But there will be athletes with Russian and Belarussian passports competing as "Individual Neutral Athletes," or AINs for short, if they meet specific conditions. That contingent will include 13 Russians and seven Belarussians, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced Jan. 29.

If any of the AIN athletes were to win gold, a wordless anthem commissioned by the IOC would play. And none of the them will be allowed to participate in the Opening Ceremony Feb. 6. The IOC used the same procedure for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

IOC moves closer to reinstating Russia by LA28, but backlash may put its return on ice

MILAN — Leaders of the International Olympic Committee appear ready to lift suspensions of Russia and Belarus, clearing the way for athletes from those countries to return to major international competitions perhaps as early as the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

But those plans may have hit a snag last week with the international show of support for Ukrainian skeleton slider Vladyslav Heraskevych, who was disqualified from the Milan-Cortina Games for refusing to compete without a helmet featuring images of people killed following the Russian invasion of his country.

Russia plays prideful, but there’s no doubt the Olympics ban is hurting | Bruce Berglund

Some Russians have dismissed the Games over the continued exclusion of their athletes. But the truth is international sport is still important to Moscow

Duma member Vitaly Milonov didn’t mince words when asked four years ago about the international ban against Russian athletes.

“There’s no point in humiliating ourselves and begging to be let in,” said the St Petersburg deputy, a member of Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party. “We have our pride.” International events had been corrupted by the United States, he claimed in a 2022 interview, just weeks after the International Olympic Committee and other governing bodies imposed the ban. “Only Russia can say no. Other countries will accept whatever nonsense the Americans force on them – teams of vegans, queers and lesbians.”

Internal conflicts, resignations plague France's 2030 Winter Olympics prep

The International Olympic Committee confirmed France and Salt Lake City will host the 2030 and 2034 Winter Games.

With all eyes on the Milan Cortina Olympics, the organization of the Winter Games in France in four years' time is faltering.

Internal tensions have multiplied in recent months, against a backdrop of several resignations, culminating in open conflict between former Olympic gold medalist Edgar Grospiron, who is leading the project, and Cyril Linette, the director general now on his way out.

After a meeting of all stakeholders from the organizing committee, French organizers released a statement on Wednesday that acknowledged “the existence of irreconcilable disagreements between president Edgar Grospiron and director general Cyril Linette.”

Jeers, cheers and pleas for peace kick off Milano Cortina 2026

The Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games, the 25th in the history of the Olympic movement, got underway in a delight of colour and style and celebration of music and Italian culture.

A total of 1,200 performers across four venues, headlined by Mariah Carey and Andrea Bocelli in Milan's La Scala of Football, San Siro, put on a performance as gloriously spectacular as anything that the city's famous Teatro alla Scala could claim to have produced.

The future of this grand old stadium is marked, the 99-year-old site of Italian glory and despair, is set to be replaced by 2032.

"The San Siro was always full of emotions," former AC Milan player and manager Fabio Capello said earlier this week.
