Russell wins Azerbaijan GP after Piastri disaster in Baku

George Russell has claimed a nail-biting victory in Baku, holding off Max Verstappen by just 0.196 seconds to secure his third victory of the season.
Russell, who had never led a race from start to finish before in his career, narrowed the gap to his teammate Kimi Antonelli, who recovered from a 16th place start to finish fifth.
The Englishman was successfully holding Verstappen at arms length right up until the final moments of the last lap, when waved yellow flags for a Valtteri Bottas crash through the old town section of the track saw Russell lose power.

George Russell led from pole and built a commanding lead in the first segment of the race. He was cruising to the win until two Safety Cars neutralised his advantage. With a rapid Verstappen suddenly on his heels, Russell had to work hard in the final few laps to hold on to the win – even clipping the wall in his Mercedes at one stage. But despite losing his Boost on the very last lap, he just about held on for his first Grand Prix win since Austria.
