Spring weather on the way for Perth after gloomy few days

Fear not, West Australians — spring conditions are officially on the way following a gloomy cool and cloudy end to September.

On Monday severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for parts of WA, as lightning and hail continued to batter parts of the State.

Senior Bureau meteorologist Jessica Lingard told PerthNow that the weather system that had wreaked havoc in some regions over the weekend and into the start of the week, was now on its way out.

“Those incredible weather systems we’ve seen in the last few days have now shifted a little bit further to the east,” Ms Lingard began.

Perth and Millendon in the Swan Valley have both recorded 8.4mm, with Bickley receiving 7mm.

Further falls have been recorded at Gingin Airport, which has had 5.6mm, while Garden Island and Swanbourne have each recorded 5mm.

A weather system making its way across Western Australia's south, brought a torrent of rain with some areas recording almost 100 millimetres over the weekend.

The deluge comes after the South West Land Division had one of its driest Julys on record.

Farmers in drier parts of the state that missed the deluge are hoping for a final drenching to bulk up crops, just weeks out from harvest.

A weather system that formed in the north of Western Australia has made its way south over the weekend, bringing with it much-needed rain after a particularly dry winter, including one of the driest Julys on record.
