Dover man wins $2 million Powerball prize after years of playing
A Craven County man said years of playing the lottery paid off this week with a $2 million Powerball win.
Dietrich Kilpatrick of Dover said he has bought Quick Pick tickets for nearly every drawing over the past decade. On Monday, he matched all five white balls to win $1 million, and the prize doubled to $2 million after the 2X multiplier was applied, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery.
“I’ve been buying Quick Picks in every drawing for like 10 years,” Kilpatrick said.
Kilpatrick, a retired farmer of 42 years, purchased the $3 ticket at JD Gas & Grocery on N.C. 55 in Dover. Lottery officials said his was the largest prize won nationally in that drawing.
