South Africa v Scotland: Nations Championship rugby – live

68 mins. Hang on though, the defence suddenly opened up for Hiddleston to run through and feed Bayliss to score.

67 mins. This is now over for Scotland. Much is made of the power of South Africa, qnad rightly so, but so much of what is good about them is what you might call micro-disciplines. In contact, in handling, at set piece; they do everything so well, alloyed with that aforementioned power.

66 mins. Scotland are essentially in a vice of the Boks’ making now, with each set piece another turn of the crank. The latest lineout has the home side rapidly into the red zone for sub Porthen to score.

Springboks: Nick Mallett identifies the players for whom Scotland Test will be watershed match

Springboks fly-half Handre Pollard and ex-South Africa head coach Nick Mallett (inset).

Nick Mallett believes there will be some players in the Springboks squad who will be under pressure to shine in Saturday’s Test against Scotland in Pretoria.

After starting their Nations Championship campaign with an impressive 45-21 victory over England in Johannesburg last week, Springboks boss Rassie Erasmus has made 10 changes to his run-on side for the clash against Gregor Townsend’s charges.

That has resulted in several regulars being rested for the Loftus Versfeld showdown while numerous other players will be determined to cement their places in the Boks‘ squad ahead of the eagerly anticipated Greatest Rivalry series against the All Blacks which gets underway in South Africa next month.

'That’s stupid': Scotland captain issues fighting words ahead of Bok clash

SPOTLIGHT: Scotland captain Sione Tuipulotu may have faced the Springboks twice already in his career, but he is under no illusion about the magnitude of Saturday’s Nations Championship clash.

Tuipulotu will lead a strong Scotland side at Loftus Versfeld after head coach Gregor Townsend made just three changes to the team that beat Argentina in Cordoba last week.

It will be the skipper’s first time facing the Boks on African soil, having previously come up against them at the World Cup in 2023 and at Murrayfield in 2024.

Tuipulotu is also familiar with many of the Springbok players through the URC, but believes playing them in South Africa presents an entirely different challenge.

72 min: SA line-out on England’s 22. Marx throws and gets it back. Dixon carries. Wessells does likewise. Porthen makes ground and they have a penalty advantage on the 22. England could be in trouble here.

Not what England needed but there can be no argument! Willemse gathered a high kick and Freeman came screaming up. He never stooped and met Willemse’s head with his shoulder. He might be in trouble here actually. They’ll review. Could be a red. 50/50 for me.

71 min: Freeman melts Willemse but it always looked a touch high. It’s a penalty, but is it also a yellow card?

Siya Kolisi hails 'special human being' Tom Curry and what Springboks learned from World Cup semi-final

Springboks captain Siya Kolisi is looking forward to locking horns with old adversary Tom Curry when they face England in the Nations Championship at Ellis Park.

The two flankers are no strangers to playing on the big stage and both start on the openside for their respective team on Saturday, with Kolisi hugely respectful of Curry.

“He’s one of the toughest guys I’ve ever played against,” he praised.

“I remember since 2018, and then in the 2019 World Cup Final too. He is a special human being, and I love playing against him. Tomorrow’s going to be no different.”

T20 World Cup: England the best they have been "in years", says Alex Hartley

Former spinner Alex Hartley says England are playing their best cricket for "years" and she is "very confident" about their chances in Thursday's T20 World Cup semi-final.

England progressed to their meeting with South Africa at The Oval with five wins from five in Group 2 and a series of impressive performances.

But they have not won a World Cup since 2017, faltering in underwhelming fashion in five knockout matches across those nine years.

"They look good," Hartley, 32, told BBC Test Match Special. "I don't want to put the mockers on them.

"I am going into the semi-finals nervous, because we haven't seen them under pressure and it's where England have crumbled and failed over the last three or four years, but I am very confident."

Litchfield scores quick-fire century before Australia’s spinners bag nine wickets in comprehensive win in Manchester.

That’s hefty. With only two going through from this group that also includes India, that really could be crucial.

In with the old and new: Proteas' plot to make Aussies blue

A couple of familiar faces will confront Australia tomorrow as the Proteas go into the T20 World Cup more confident than ever

South Africa's inclusions for their T20 World Cup opener against Australia may be a blast from the past, but the Proteas have arrived in England with an attitude that is all new.

The rivals will meet at Old Trafford on Saturday in a game that will have a major say in the tournament's 'group of death', which also features a third title fancy in India and with only the top two teams to advance to the knockouts.

It will be the first time Australia and South Africa have met in an official T20 since the 2024 semi-final in Dubai, where the Proteas stunned the then-defending champions to end their three-peat hopes.

White Ferns v South Africa: Kerr century sees NZ post 194 in Christchurch

An Amelia Kerr masterclass has seen the White Ferns complete a comprehensive T20 series victory over South Africa, sealing a 4-1 triumph with a 92-run win in Christchurch.

With the series already sealed after wins in Auckland and Wellington over the weekend, the White Ferns’ skipper put a full stop
    on her side’s victory.

The 25-year-old belted a career-best 105 off just 55 deliveries as the major factor in New Zealand’s 194-6, and surpassed her unbeaten 101 scored against Zimbabwe last month to outscore South Africa on her own.

After the last two wins were sealed chasing, Christchurch saw the White Ferns defend a total, as their 194-6 was met with just 102-9 in reply.

160 for 4 – New Zealand's total on Sunday which marked their second-highest in a successful chase in women's T20Is. The only time they've gone better was against South Africa as well, when they took down a target of 173 in Benoni three years ago.

This was also the highest successful chase by any team on New Zealand soil, overtaking South Africa who had chased down 153 in Wellington in 2020.

4 of New Zealand's top five chases in women's T20Is have come against South Africa. And Sophie Devine scored a fifty in each of those games.

West Indies captain Shai Hope: "We've got to put runs on the board again. We probably would have bowled [first].

"One change – Roston Chase for Akeal Hosein. He's certainly not being dropped. It's a tactical change – the best XI for this opposition.

"We've got to play our best cricket. Got to keep that momentum going in this important game and I'm sure the guys are up for it."

South Africa captain Aiden Markram: "We are going to bowl. It looks a good wicket and we have played here before. It feels slightly tacky so hopefully the moisture gets less and we can chase later."

South Africa make four changes and ask UAE to bat

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

South Africa have won the toss and chosen to bowl first against UAE in their T20 World Cup 2026 match on what captain Aiden Markram called a tacky pitch in Delhi. UAE captain Muhammad Waseem said he wanted to bowl first as well.

Weather also played a part in his decision – there was a drizzle just ten minutes before the toss, which forced parts of the ground to be covered.

Having already secured their place in the Super Eight, South Africa made four changes, pretty much emptying out their bench, mainly giving their premier bowlers a rest. They brought in Jason Smith, Kwena Maphaka and Anrich Nortje for their first games of the tournament, and also brought George Linde back. They left out David Miller, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj and Lungi Ngidi.

The South Africans raced to 4-123 in 13.2 overs, taking the last seven runs in singles after their fourth wicket fell.

South Africa fire Super Eights warning to India with UAE romp

New Delhi (AFP) – South Africa sent a T20 World Cup warning to co-hosts India after romping to a six-wicket win over the United Arab Emirates in New Delhi on Wednesday.

After restricting the Emiratis to 122-6 on a pitch enlivened by morning rain, South Africa raced to 123-4 in just 13.2 overs to complete a perfect group phase with four wins out of four.

Next up for Aiden Markram's side is a repeat of the 2024 final against India in Ahmedabad on Sunday in their first match of the Super Eights.

India won the final in Barbados to lift the trophy and are firm favourites to repeat on home soil.

South Africa bowl, bring Bosch back

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

South Africa sought to become the first team to mount a successful chase in a night game in this World Cup as they elected to bowl after winning the toss against New Zealand. They made one change from their last match, a morning match, bringing in Corbin Bosch for George Linde. New Zealand were unchanged.

Thanks to their wins over Afghanistan already, both South Africa and New Zealand are almost assured of progress into the Super Eights from this group of death. Thanks to pre-seeded fixtures in the next round, this match doesn't have much on the line apart from competitiveness among two solid T20 teams.

Canada bowl against pace-heavy South Africa

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

Canada captain Dilpreet Bajwa won the toss and asked South Africa to bat in their World Cup opener in Ahmedabad.

South Africa have opted for a pace-heavy attack. Keshav Maharaj slots in as their only spinner, alongside the speedy quartet of Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi. Tristan Stubbs also begins the tournament at the No. 6 spot – a position Jason Smith had occupied in their last T20I, while Stubbs had slid down to No. 7. Smith is in the World Cup squad but did not find a spot in South Africa's starting eleven.

South Africa fielded four seamers and two spinners as they began their final T20 World Cup 2026 preparation with most of their first choice players.

Lhuan-dre Pretorius was carded to open the batting with Aiden Markram, with Ryan Rickelton slotted in at No.3. Jason Smith was given the opportunity to play the finishing role with David Miller out of the series with a groin injury.

Shai Hope missed out for West Indies due to a groin niggle, while Shamar Joseph also did not find a spot in the playing XI.

South Africa to rest trio in first Twenty20 International against West Indies

South Africa will be without the victorious Sunrisers Eastern Cape trio of Quinton de Kock, Marco Jansen and Tristan Stubbs when they start their T20 International series against the West Indies in Paarl on Tuesday.

The players have been given permission to skip the first game of the series after helping their side to the SA20 title with victory over the Pretoria Capitals in the final at Newlands on Saturday.

Wicketkeeper-batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius and seamer Eathan Bosch have been called into the squad for the match at Boland Park only.

The Sunrisers trio will be back for the second and third games on Thursday and Saturday respectively.
