    Live: Australia blows Oman away to end T20 World Cup campaign with a bang

    Australia has ended its disappointing T20 World Cup campaign with a comprehensive nine-wicket win over Oman in Kandy.

    Australia's hopes of reaching the next stage of the tournament had already been ended by successive defeats to Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, making this final group stage match against associate nation Oman a dead rubber.

    But despite the team's clear disappointment, it produced its most convincing performance of the tournament to date.

    "It's just a missed opportunity," Marsh said of his team's campaign.

    "It's a bitterly disappointed change room. We built for two years to be here and we didn't play our best in a couple of games that we needed to."

    Australia 108 for 1 (Marsh 64*, Head 32) beat Oman 104 (Wasim 32, Zampa 4-21, Maxwell 2-13, Bartlett 2-27) by nine wickets

    The disappointment was written large on the Australian faces. They didn't celebrate any of the Oman wickets, but in a clinical show with bat and ball, they managed to end their 2026 T20 World Cup on a high, defeating Oman by nine wickets in Pallekele. Adam Zampa, who went wicketless against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, got back to his best – he picked up 4 for 21. Xavier Bartlett and Glenn Maxwell took two wickets apiece as well, bowling Oman out for 104 in 16.2 overs.

    Australia beat Oman by nine wickets in Pallekele but head home without making the Super 8 stage of the T20I World Cup

    That’s it from me and from Australia at this World Cup. They were imperious today but when it really mattered they couldn’t quite get themselves going, losses to Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka left them way off the pace and the rain washed away any remote they had when Ireland and Zimbabwe couldn’t get on the park. Mitch Marsh’s side head home without making the Super 8s with plenty to ponder.

    Sam Fanning fell heartbreakingly short of a maiden ton for Western Australia as Victoria captain Will Sutherland and Test paceman Scott Boland gave the visitors the advantage in the Sheffield Shield match at the WACA.

    Sutherland scored a first-class career-best 101 not out to help the Vics to 9-431, declaring immediately upon reaching his second first class ton.

    WA finished day two at the WACA on 5-200 in their first innings, with Joel Curtis unbeaten on 26 and Fanning having been dismissed in the final hour for 99.

    Sam Harper's rapid-fire 76-ball century has laid the foundation for Victoria's strong opening day at the WACA, helping the visitors to 7-338 against Western Australia.

    Fresh off the best BBL campaign of his career, Harper blitzed 119 from 109 balls for the ladder-leading Victoria in the Sheffield Shield on Monday morning.

    The 29-year-old unleashed an array of cover drives and powerful strikes down the ground as his side made a solid start in a match in which victory would all but book a spot in the Shield final.

    Australia cannot afford another misstep following Friday’s shock T20 World Cup loss to Zimbabwe, which put the 2021 champions at risk of an early elimination from the tournament.

    Zimbabwe, who failed to qualify for the previous edition of the ICC event, toppled Australia by 23 runs at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium in a massive Group B shake-up.

    Co-hosts Sri Lanka and Australia were expected to cruise through to the Super Eights stage of the tournament, but that’s now far from being a certainty.

    Curiously, Australia could win both of their remaining pool matches — against Sri Lanka and Oman — and still fail to qualify for the next stage of the ICC event, while it’s mathematically possible for them to progress even if they lose another game.

    Ford Australia has recalled some of its Ranger and Everest units, according to a Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communication, Sports and the Arts filing. 

    It concerns 244 units affected in the 2022 model year relating to a low battery level causing the transmission to shift into the Park setting at low speeds. 

    “Due to a software issue, under certain circumstances if the battery level drops below a critical threshold, the transmission may shift into Park when the vehicle is travelling at speeds below 6 km/h,” the notice reads. 

    Ford recalls 2022 Ford Ranger and Ford Everest models over safety issue

    Ford has issued an urgent recall affecting two car models over major safety concerns caused by software issues.

    The alert was issued for the 2022 Ford Ranger and Ford Everest models, with more than 200 cars affected.

    The Department of Transport said the vehicles have a defect caused by a software issue, where if the battery level drops below a critical threshold, the transmission may shift itself into the park position when the vehicle is travelling at speeds below 6km/h.

    “This may cause a sudden stop without the rear brake lamps illuminating as intended,” they said.

    “A sudden stop whilst driving at low speed and the rear brake lamps not illuminating as intended could increase the potential risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

    Medal tally: Australia ahead of China and Canada after first gold

    Australia now features on the medal tally for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

    Cooper Woods's gold in the men's moguls overnight saw Australia move from non-factor to 14th on the official Milano Cortina tally, ahead of snow-covered Canada and powerhouse China.

    The Canadians and Chinese have more overall medals, with seven and four respectively, but are both waiting for their first gold of the Games, leaving them behind Australia.

    Norway has won five medals (two gold and three bronze) in cross-country skiing, one of each colour in speed skating, a gold and silver in ski jumping, gold and bronze in biathlon, while Birk Ruud and Jens Luraas Oftebro nabbed golds in slopestyle skiing and nordic combined.

    The United States is fielding its biggest Winter Olympics team ever for the 2026 Games, with 232 athletes going for the gold. The wins started early as Breezy Johnson claimed America's first gold medal of the Games in women's downhill and U.S. figure skaters won gold in the team competition.     Lawyers have confirmed they are acting for the two grandmothers of missing four-year-old Gus Lamont.

    Gus went missing from his family’s sheep station in September last year and was initially thought to have wandered off. After months of intensive searching, South Australian Police (SAPol) declared his disappearance a major crime on Thursday, and said that the suspect was someone who lived at the station.

    Gus’s mother, younger brother and two grandmothers live at Oak Park Station, and his father lives elsewhere. Police ruled out the parents as suspects.

    When news broke of the disappearance of a four-year-old boy in outback South Australia on September 27, 2025, countless theories and conspiracies emerged.

    SA Police were quick to state that the main assumption was that Gus Lamont, who had been "playing outside in the sand like he normally does", had simply "wandered off" into the bush.

    But this theory took a dark turn this week, when SA Police revealed the case was now considered a major crime.

    In initial communication on the matter, police involved in the search said they remained "hopeful" Gus would be found alive, despite the harsh conditions of the terrain at Oak Park Station.
