There haven't been many surprises in the first week of the 2026 NBA postseason. The No. 7 and 8 teams in each conference advanced through the play-in tournament. In the first weekend of the true playoffs, home teams won seven of the eight Game 1s — and by an average of 17.7 points. Only one game all weekend was decided by single digits.

But that single-digit game was a semi-surprise, as the fourth-seeded Los Angeles Lakers defeated the fifth-seeded Houston Rockets. Even with Houston's leading scorer, Kevin Durant, missing Game 1, the Lakers were underdogs at home because they were missing their top two scorers in Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

Lakers make winning start as NBA play-offs begin

LeBron James is looking for a fifth NBA championship of his career

The Los Angeles Lakers shrugged off their injury worries to make a winning start to the NBA play-offs.

The 18-time champions were without key players Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves and Maxi Kleber but 41-year-old LeBron James produced another fine display in a 107-98 win over the Houston Rockets.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks were the other winners on day one of the play-offs, while the Phoenix Suns and Orlando Magic won the play-in tournament to book their places.

James controlled the floor while racking up 19 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds against a Houston side who lost key man Kevin Durant to injury just before play started.

Lakers' Jake LaRavia: Leaves for locker room

LaRavia exited to the locker room in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's Game 2 against the Rockets due to an apparent right leg issue, Khobi Price of The California Post reports.

LaRavia was seemingly trying to stay off his right foot as he limped to the locker room with 5:05 remaining in the fourth quarter. It's unclear exactly what he is dealing with, though it wouldn't be surprising if the 24-year-old doesn't return in the final minutes of Tuesday's contest.

Lakers' Austin Reaves questionable vs. Mavericks on Sunday

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

DALLAS — With the team already reeling from the Luka Doncic left hamstring strain diagnosis that will sideline him indefinitely, the Los Angeles Lakers announced on Saturday that Austin Reaves has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 left oblique muscle injury and will be out for the remainder of the regular season.

While the team gave no timetable for his return, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania that Reaves is expected to miss four to six weeks with the injury.

Reaves underwent an MRI on his oblique/rib area Saturday. He was originally listed as questionable to play against the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday.

Austin Reaves injury update: Lakers lose second star for regular season ahead of playoffs

Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves is reportedly out for the remainder of the season.

Reaves has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 left oblique muscle injury and he will miss the Lakers' five remaining regular-season games, according to ESPN. The combo guard is expected to be out for four to six weeks, ESPN's Shams Charania reported.

Reaves has had his best season with the Lakers after joining the team as an undrafted rookie signing in 2021. In his fifth season in Los Angeles, Reaves averaged a career-high 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.1 steals. His shooting splits are 49% on field goals, 36% from three and 87% on free throws.

Austin Reaves out for rest of Lakers’ regular season with oblique muscle injury

Reaves suffered Grade 2 oblique muscle strain in April 2nd game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Lakers will now be without Austin Reaves and Luka Dončić (hamstring strain) for the remainder of the regular season.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Austin Reaves has a Grade 2 oblique muscle injury that will force him to miss the rest of the Los Angeles Lakers’ regular season along with Luka Doncic, the team announced Saturday.

Reaves and Doncic both incurred potentially significant injuries on Thursday in Oklahoma City, throwing a major complication into the postseason hopes of the Lakers (50-27). Doncic is out for at least the next two weeks after straining his left hamstring in the Lakers’ blowout loss to the Thunder.

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

LOS ANGELES — Just as Luka Doncic's case for MVP was picking up steam, the Los Angeles Lakers' star was whistled for his 16th technical foul of the season Friday against the Brooklyn Nets and will face a one-game suspension if it is upheld.

Doncic and Nets forward Ziaire Williams were assessed double techs with 5:12 remaining in the third quarter after jostling with one another following an offensive foul called on Doncic.

A video review showed Doncic pushing Williams and Williams retaliating by swiping back at Doncic's face. Both players were called for a technical foul by crew chief Sean Wright.

The Lakers (46-26) aim to quickly get back on the winning column as they conclude their six-game road trip against the Indiana Pacers (16-56) on Wednesday.

Why Pistons will upset Lakers without Cade Cunningham: Game prediction

The Detroit Pistons host the Los Angeles Lakers in a highly anticipated NBA matchup Monday night in Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit.

The game between the Eastern Conference-leading Pistons and the West's 3-seed Lakers took a bit of a hit last week, when we learned Pistons All-Star and MVP candidate Cade Cunningham suffered a partially collapsed lung injury in a game Tuesday in Washington. He is out through the start of April at least. The Pistons also remain without defensive standout Isaiah Stewart (calf) off the bench.

The Lakers have surged to nine straight wins, led by Luka Dončić − the NBA's scoring leader at 33.4 points per game − Austin Reaves (23.5 ppg) and 41-year-old superhuman LeBron James (21.1 ppg). The Lakers injury report has ruled out starting guard Marcus Smart and key bench contributor Rui Hachimura tonight against the Pistons.

Rui Hachimura Injury: Ruled out Monday

Hachimura is out is out for Monday's game against Detroit with right calf soreness.

Monday is Hachimura's first absence since the Feb. 28 win over the Warriors. His absence frees up some more playing time for Luke Kennard and Jake LaRavia on the wing versus the Pistons.

Magic vs. Lakers Prediction: Preview, Injury Report, Advantages, X-Factors

The Magic host the Lakers at the Kia Center on Saturday, March 21, at 7 p.m. ET.

The Magic are 38-31, seventh in the East, and 21-12 at home. The Lakers are 45-25, third in the West, and 22-13 on the road.

The Magic are coming off a 130-111 loss to the Hornets, while the Lakers are coming off a 134-126 win over the Heat.

The Magic also lead the season series 1-0 after a 110-109 win in the first meeting. Paolo Banchero is averaging 22.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists, and Jalen Suggs is at 13.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists.

For the Lakers, Luka Doncic is averaging 33.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 8.4 assists, while LeBron James is at 21.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 6.9 assists. This is a real test of style because the Magic want a physical game, while the Lakers want their stars deciding it late as Austin Reaves remains in jeopardy.

Sixers have chance to bounce back against tanking Kings

After a blowout loss to the Nuggets, the Sixers will be trying to pick up a win against the shorthanded, tanking Kings. What could go wrong?

Update: After initially being listed as doubtful for today’s game, Joel Embiid has now been downgraded to out.

After doing a nice job picking up two straights wins, including a solid performance against the Blazers on Sunday, it’s hardly surprising the Hospital Sixers faltered against the Nuggets on Tuesday. They were dismantled 124-96, falling behind 38-22 after the first quarter and never recovering from there.

If the Sixers are going to grab another win before any of their stars return, though, Thursday’s matchup against the Kings is one of their best opportunities. At just 18-52, Sacramento is firmly at the bottom of the Western Conference.

Nique Clifford Injury: Questionable for Thursday

Clifford is questionable to play Thursday against the 76ers due to soreness in his left hamstring.

We'll have a better idea on Clifford's status based on his activity level at shootaround, but if he is forced to the sidelines, there would be more minutes available for Daeqwon Plowden and Doug McDermott. Check back for official word on Clifford's status closer to Thursday's tipoff.

Lakers Fans Chime In On Preferred Jersey Patch After Bibigo Sponsorship Ends

A key decision looms for the Lakers as they approach a very critical offseason. Amid various other changes to the team (front office included), they just announced an upcoming vacancy for the rights to their jersey sponsorship patch. The team announced the news in a statement on Wednesday:

“The Los Angeles Lakers are opening up global sponsorship rights for their premium jersey patch partnership for the 2026-27 NBA season and beyond,” wrote the Lakers. “The move represents the next chapter for the storied franchise’s evolution.”

The Lakers initially partnered with the e-commerce app, Wish, for the 2017-18 season. Eventually, they settled on a five-year, $100 million sponsorship deal with Bibigo, a global lifestyle brand focused on modernizing Korean cuisine. We don’t yet know which brands are competing for the open sponsorship rights, but any agreement is going to be highly lucrative, given the Lakers’ status as the most prestigious team in the league.

Lakers seeking new jersey patch sponsor post-Bibigo

Lakers seeking new jersey patch sponsor post-Bibigo appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Los Angeles Lakers have formally opened the bidding process for a new jersey patch sponsor beginning with the 2026–27 NBA season and beyond. It signals the end of their current five-year agreement with Bibigo, which began in 2021 and was valued at over $100 million.

The franchise released a press release inviting bids for what was described as a category-defining sponsorship, per a post on X by The Sporting Tribune’s Arash Markazi.

“The Lakers are one of the most recognizable brands in the world, synonymous with greatness, championships, style, and legacy. There’s no question the value of the Lakers starts on the court in the heart of Los Angeles and uniquely extends across culture and entertainment to reach people everywhere. The elite identity of the Purple and Gold blends legendary history with dynamic newness, creating moments and experiences that are remembered forever,” Lakers vice president of corporate partnerships Jim Snodgrass said, via the release.
