LIVE: Dockers host Swans in top-two blockbuster from 8.10pm AEST

Don't miss a second of the action from Thursday night's blockbuster clash between the Dockers and Swans

AN END of season blockbuster arrives early with a top-two clash between pacesetter Fremantle and Sydney opening round 18 on Thursday night.

Fremantle will hope it was the loss it had to have as a club record 14-match winning streak was snapped by Greater Western Sydney.

The Dockers conceded their second highest score for the season – and biggest since their defeat to the Cats – as they were smashed 42-28 in clearances and 62-47 for inside 50s, and now have had a five-day break before the top-of-the-ladder clash with the Swans.

AFL 2026 LIVE updates: Leaders Fremantle take on second-placed Swans in Perth

Tom Papley kicks his second goal and it’s thanks to a beautiful assist from Errol Gulden. The Swans are managing Papley’s minutes carefully but when he’s on, he’s emptying the tank.

Fremantle are still goalless, with ten behinds. Incredible stuff. A case of the yips has broken out at Optus Stadium. This won’t last.

It’s almost comical as Murphy Reid takes his shot and the ball just goes badly wide from a relatively straight forward shot.

The issue is the Swans have still not pulled away and Fremantle will come back, they have no choice.

Antisemitism royal commission live updates: ABC, SBS executives to appear

Hello, I’m Alexandra Smith and I will be with you today as the ABC and SBS appear before the royal commission.

Australia’s Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism Jillian Segal was first to give evidence. Segal has previously told the commission that antisemitism was a “virus” that had evolved.

The ABC’s editorial director Gavin Fang is following Segal, then ABC Ombudsman Fiona Cameron.

SBS’s director of audio and language David Thanh Man Tue Hua, its director of news and current affairs, Amanda Wicks, and SBS Ombudsman Amy Stockwell will also appear.

We have moved on to the SBS, with David Hua who is the broadcaster’s director of audio and language content. He was previously head of international strategy at the ABC.

Australia's Envoy to Combat Antisemitism, Jillian Segal, has accused the ABC of being its own "judge, counsel and jury", recommending an independent oversight committee be established to review the public broadcaster's compliance with its charter obligations.

ABC and SBS need ‘oversight’ committee to vet Israel coverage, Jillian Segal tells royal commission

Antisemitism envoy says public broadcasters, which currently have an ombudsman to handle complaints, need an independent oversight committee

The antisemitism envoy, Jillian Segal, wants a new “oversight” committee to vet the ABC and SBS’s Israel coverage, she told the royal commission on Thursday morning.

Both the ABC and SBS have an independent ombudsman to handle complaints.

Segal said a committee outside the organisation should have oversight and that there was a “common and pervasive perception” in the Jewish community that the public broadcasters’ coverage of the war in the Middle East “lacked balance”, that there was an overemphasis on Gaza compared with other conflicts, and that the coverage gave disproportionate voice to anti-Israel perspectives.

Iran war live updates: US military launches another wave of strikes on Iran

Iranian state news agency IRNA is reporting that a fireman was killed after an attack on Iranshahr airport.

It's unclear whether the firefighter was killed in the strike itself or while responding to a subsequent blaze.

Australian National University maritime security specialist Jennifer Parker says it's going to be an "extended conflict".

However, it doesn't sound like we should be expecting all-out war between Iran and the US.

"Now, that probably doesn't look like the intensity of conflict that we saw in March and April," she says.

"It probably looks like these lulls with a tit–for–tat retaliation and some strikes on the strait and then back to negotiations.

Australia faces worst growth slump in decades

Australia is facing its longest stretch of weak economic growth since the early 1990s recession, but stubborn inflation pressures are still expected to force the Reserve Bank to raise interest rates again, according to a new report by Deloitte Access Economics.

The firm slashed its outlook for the Australian economy in its latest set of quarterly forecasts on Tuesday, predicting the economy will grow by just 1.3 per cent this financial year and 1.9 per cent in 2027-28 – marking the most prolonged stretch of sub-2 per cent growth in three decades.

The combination of high inflation, higher interest rates, weakening economic growth and softening consumer and business sentiment is starting to take its toll on the housing market.

That's according to the newly minted chief economist at property valuation and advisory firm, Herron Todd White, Cameron Kusher.

Noting the variance in the national economic performance, the weaker economic conditions over the quarter reflect weakening consumer and business confidence and the early impact of two increases in the cash rate over the quarter, Kusher says.
