    Country code top level domains are not awarded on merit or sold at auction. They follow ISO 3166-1, the international standard that assigns each country a two-letter code, and the code for Tuvalu is TV. When the domain name system was extended to national suffixes, Tuvalu received the string that matched its entry, in the same mechanical way France received .fr and Kenya received .ke.

    When Charlie Wu returned to school last week, he had an incredible yarn to tell his classmates about what he’d been up to during the holidays.

    While other kids rode bikes and played video games over their winter breaks, 13-year-old Charlie travelled to the other side of the world to compete in one of the world’s top junior piano competitions – and won.

    In his final performance for the Grand Piano Competition in Russia, Charlie conquered what is known as the Mount Everest of piano pieces, Rachmaninoff’s Concerto No. 3, accompanied by the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra.

    His mother, Ashleigh Wu, said she was proud and excited to witness Charlie’s triumph at Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, where he came equal first with Russian 10-year-old Emir Zakaria.

    Melbourne pianist Charlie Wu has been awarded the Grand Prix at the Fifth International Competition for Young Pianists – the Grand Piano Competition in Moscow, sharing the competition’s highest honour with 10-year-old Russian pianist Emir Zakaria.

    Wu, a Year 8 student at Caulfield Grammar School, claimed the top award following the competition’s finals at Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, where he performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. The work is widely regarded as one of the most technically demanding works in the piano repertoire.

    Three-time AFL premiership player Jack Gunston is extending his career at Hawthorn for at least another season after signing a new one-year deal.

    The key forward has committed to an 18th AFL campaign on the back of impressive form with the Hawks, having kicked 40 goals from 12 games to help them sit third on the ladder.

    It comes after a career-best 73 goals last year helped him earn a second All-Australian nod.

    The 34-year-old inked a new deal in recent days to continue his decorated career into 2027. 

    Gunston has played 295 games since being drafted by Adelaide in 2009 and is six off 600 goals.

    Your phone uses the battery even when the screen is off. Once I figured out which one was the worst offender on my phone, a few changes gave me close to two extra hours on a single charge. The surprise was that the name at the top of my battery list was not the app I needed to change.

    If you have ever opened your battery settings, you may have seen Google Play Services near the top of the list. It looks like the obvious culprit, so restricting it or force-stopping it can feel like the logical move. But that battery figure doesn't tell the whole story. It shows which service is doing the work, not necessarily which app is triggering it.

    Google alerts Android users about a major backup storage change

    Google is tightening the limits on the free storage included with your Google Account. Android backups previously did not count against your storage quota, but that is changing. After quietly updating its support page in early July, Google is now emailing Android users to inform them that their backups will count against their storage limit.

    In an email to Android users about the "New Android Backup Storage Policy & Controls," Google details that "all data included in your Android device backups will begin counting towards your Google Account storage limit." The change will be effective in 45 days and will increase your Google account's storage usage.

    All Android backup data now counts toward your Google Account storage [Update: Email]

    Google is making a policy change to Android backups that adjusts what counts toward your Google Account storage.

    Update 7/18: Google is emailing Android users about this change: “New Android Backup Storage Policy & Controls.” For existing users, this change takes effect in 45 days.

    The “current storage status” section of the email notes “your estimated increase in Android backup,” as well as how much space you’re currently using.

    In terms of the expanded settings, Google is widely rolling out new on/off toggles and per-app backup controls.

    Original 7/6: Previously, Android backups would only count images and videos uploaded to Google Photos and “MMS data” (photos + videos) toward your Google Account storage of 15 GB (free) or more with Google One (paid).

    Hanson and her colleagues have spent days clarifying, explaining or walking back headline-grabbing parts of the One Nation leader’s trip to Europe, including a podcast interview with the far-right convicted criminal Tommy Robinson, her attendance at a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show and downtime by a hotel pool in Italy with the mining billionaire Gina Rinehart.

    BARNABY JOYCE:  Well, I think that the issue here is that first of all, the meeting with Tommy Robinson, I don't believe that it was a carte blanche case of that One Nation wanted that meeting. I think it was basically suggested by Spotlight, agreed to by One Nation. And of course, it made sensational viewing for those who wanted to basically get very upset.

    Joyce backs Hanson on mass deportations, denies One Nation wants return of White Australia policy

    Barnaby Joyce has denied One Nation supports the White Australia policy, while backing party leader Pauline Hanson’s call for mass deportations and suggesting illegal immigrants could be targeted when they seek medical treatment.

    Hanson’s approval of a far-right UK party’s deportation plan was broadcast on Seven’s Spotlight on Sunday night, as Joyce joined the cleanup of Hanson’s earlier remarks in which she said Australia’s woes began after the end of the White Australia policy.

    “We don’t support the White Australia policy. Let’s get that completely clear,” Joyce told Sunrise on Monday, after Lee Hanson blamed her mother’s lack of eloquence for her being “misunderstood”.

    So it’s unsurprising that whispers of a potential Max Verstappen defection to McLaren – which could knock the Australian out of the papaya-coloured English team – don’t bother him.

    “I think from where I sit, I’m very comfortable in the position I’m at,” Piastri said, speaking exclusively to this masthead before the Belgian Grand Prix.
