Victorian State Voting Intention: One Nation (26.5%) now ahead of ALP (25.5%) and L-NP Coalition (21.5%) on primary vote nine months before Victorian State Election

Only nine months before a State Election, Victorian electors are split with One Nation (26.5%) now ahead of the governing ALP (25.5%), and the official Opposition L-NP Coalition (21.5%). In addition, 13.5% support the Greens and a further 13% support other minor parties and Independents according to the special SMS Roy Morgan survey conducted from February 13-16, 2026, with a representative Victoria-wide cross-section of 2,462 electors.

If a Victorian State Election were held now there would likely be a hung Parliament with a great deal of uncertainty about the results in many electorates.

The second, and third, preference decisions of voters will be more important than ever in determining the result of this year’s Victorian State Election.

One Nation, almost zero donations: Minor party short on election cash

One Nation’s Victorian branch received less than $100 in donations last year, sparking doubt about its strength for this year’s state election battle, although Pauline Hanson’s minor party claims its membership has ballooned at least threefold in Victoria.

The party, which had its first Victorian MP, Rikkie-Lee Tyrrell, elected to the upper house in 2022, has broken through in recent federal and state polling that has upended established wisdom about the two-party system and perceptions of One Nation’s weakness in the state.

The Resolve Political Monitor for The Age, which surveyed Victorians in January and February, estimated support for the party at state level was 11 per cent. Other polls have placed support for One Nation in the 20s, making it a serious player.

What One Nation’s rise means for Labor in Queensland

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them anytime.

One Nation’s rise has decimated support on the conservative side of politics, triggering an existential reckoning for the Coalition.

Federally, the party has splintered, reformed and changed leaders, while state conservative oppositions in Victoria and South Australia have bled votes to Pauline Hanson’s party.

But the numbers in Queensland, so far, tell a different story.

The latest Resolve Strategic poll for this masthead revealed the first glimpse of a Queensland state-based surge for One Nation – and it appears to have eroded votes from Labor, rather than the LNP.

League One side Mansfield Town will host 14-time winners Arsenal in the FA Cup fifth round.

The Stags defeated Premier League stragglers Burnley 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, producing a remarkable second-half comeback at Turf Moor.

Sunderland face a second successive away trip in the competition as they were drawn against Port Vale or Bristol City – that fourth-round tie was postponed until Tuesday, 3 March (19:45 GMT) because of a waterlogged pitch.

Following a bruising eight-wicket defeat to Zimbabwe in their tournament opener, Oman have shifted their base from Colombo to Kandy, hoping for a fresh start at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Standing in their way are hosts Sri Lanka, in a critical Group B clash on Thursday.

Despite the pressure of a World Cup, wicketkeeper-batter Vinayak Shukla insists the mood in the camp remains upbeat.

"To be honest, it's quite good over here, coming from Colombo to Kandy and I think it's going to be a change of fortune for us and we have a different result from the previous game," Shukla said at a pre-match media briefing on Wednesday. "The mood is pretty light [in the camp], you can't take unnecessary pressure [just] because you are playing against Sri Lanka."

One in three Aussie investors may quit, renters squeezed | PIPA

One in three property investors say they could quit the market if the capital gains tax discount is cut, as a rate rise bites into borrowing power and rental supply fears grow.

One in three property investors are preparing to quit the market as a radical federal tax grab threatens to bridge the rental crisis.

It comes as fresh interest rate pain wipes up to $23,000 from the average family’s borrowing power.New research from the Property Investment Professionals of Australia shows investor nerves are already influencing behaviour, even before any policy is locked in, with warnings that further sell-offs would deepen Australia’s rental crisis.

How capital gains tax changes could impact you

Back in late 2024, as the federal election campaign was at its height, Treasurer Jim Chalmers ordered Treasury to run the numbers on the impact of scaling back some of the lucrative concessions to capital gains tax.

Somehow, this was leaked, paving the way for the treasurer to dismiss that anything was afoot.

Now, it's on again. This time, following another well-sourced leak, it could form the centrepiece of the next federal budget in May.

Once again, the idea, while not being absolutely ruled out, has been downplayed.

New Zealand had already stunned Singapore finalists France, winning the penultimate game with golden point in injury time, to claim the second semi-final slot from Pool B. But Great Britain, who had earlier picked up a deserved win over the All Blacks Sevens, threatened a major shock, as they took a 21-19 lead into the dying seconds of the deciding match — only for Hadley Tonga to break their hearts with a dramatic diving touchdown in the corner.

The factors that will decide the Super Bowl: a brilliant receiver, pass protection and explosive plays

The Seahawks and Patriots are the last teams standing this season. The championship is likely to be decided by the smallest margins

The Seattle Seahawks’ run game came alive during the second half of the season and postseason. But it’s still the passing game that makes the offense sing. Almost all of that flows through Smith-Njigba.

The wide receiver has played out of his mind this season. He roasts every defensive coverage and has morphed into a three-level threat: beating man-coverage quickly off the snap, showing fearlessness to attack the middle of the field and stretching away from deep coverage. Klint Kubiak, the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator, has channeled the entire Seattle offense through his star receiver. Smith-Njigba lines up everywhere: out wide, in the slot, in the backfield. From any of those looks, he’s a matchup nightmare. His dominance has meant that the Seahawks can send fewer receivers out in the route, allowing them to keep extra players in to protect Sam Darnold. Only the Rams sent out all five eligible receivers at a lower rate than Seattle this season.

Marnus, Neser back at the 'G as One-Day Cup season resumes

Todd Murphy also back in action as Victoria host Queensland with Usman Khawaja expected to play ensuing Shield contest

Ashes heroes Marnus Labuschagne and Michael Neser will be the star attractions when the men's domestic one-day season resumes at the MCG on Tuesday.

Todd Murphy will bolster Victoria's bowling attack in the absence of Scott Boland as the bottom-placed One-Day Cup outfit welcomes Queensland for a day match at the MCG.

It's a precursor to Thursday's Sheffield Shield contest between that competition's two top sides at the same venue with retired Test batter Usman Khawaja expected to feature.

With Boland set to sit out both matches having played all five Tests against England, Murphy will be the Vics' major weapon with the ball as they look to contain Bulls captain Labuschagne.

BULLS EYE ONE DAYER | Squad Set For MCG Clash

The Queensland Bulls will look to tap into their rising white ball talent pool as they resume their 2025-26 season tomorrow against Victoria in the One Day Cup competition.

The second-placed Bulls have an ideal opportunity to close the gap on runaway limited overs Tasmania when they take on Victoria at the MCG tomorrow (Tuesday).

With Matt Renshaw and Xavier Bartlett away on international T20 duties in Pakistan, Brisbane Heat stands-outs Max Bryant and Michael Neser come into the 13-man squad.

Bryant would play his first match of the season for the Bulls if chosen in the starting side.

Young pace bowers Tom Balkin and Oli Patterson have been named in the Queensland squad for the first time after the duo made eye-catching debuts for the Heat during the KFC Big Bash League.

While Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet has been nominated for eight Academy Awards including best picture, for many it is a tiny silver hoop earring worn by Paul Mescal in his portrayal of William Shakespeare that steals the show. Worn in his left ear lobe, the barely there hoop has people fixated online.

Paul Mescal’s Rising Fame: A Threat to His Acting Career?

Paul Mescal is experiencing a significant surge in fame, prompting discussions about its potential impact on his acting career. Known for his impressive roles in various films, he has captured widespread attention, particularly for his recent portrayal as William Shakespeare in “Hamnet.” Despite accolades from critics, there are concerns that his newfound celebrity might overshadow his artistic contributions.

In “Hamnet,” Paul Mescal delivers an interpretation of Shakespeare that is both captivating and flawed. Critics have noted that his performance can sometimes feel diminished by his public persona. Audiences are drawn to the complexity of the character—a troubled father navigating profound grief—but there are moments when Mescal’s real-life identity intrudes, disrupting viewer immersion.

‘One of the greats’: Buzz makes surprise call on legendary career in touching message

Legendary sports journalist Phil ‘Buzz’ Rothfield has retired, ending a 50-year stint with News Corp Australia covering events across the globe, with a focus on rugby league.

Rothfield began his time as a journalist in 1976, quickly becoming one of Australia’s best news-breakers and a dominant voice across the country’s media landscape.

Alongside covering rugby league, Rothfield also was the Olympics editor for News Corp in the 2000 Olympic Games and attended multiple Super Bowls and football World Cups.

Rothfield has previously held positions as Sunday Telegraph deputy editor, executive sports editor of The Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph before becoming the sports editor-at-large over the last decade.

Phil Rothfield to retire from sports journalism

News Corp veteran journalist Phil 'Buzz' Rothfield has decided to end his sports journalism career.

The veteran reporter, who has broken hundreds, if not thousands, of stories over the years, first worked for the publication in 1976, and has been part of rugby league's fabric ever since.

The Cronulla Sharks supporter has polarised opinion across the NRL landscape during his career, particularly in the later years, with a number of feuds – including against Canterbury Bulldogs director of football Phil Gould – breaking out.

While Rothfield spent the majority of his time covering rugby league, he also covered other sports including the 2000 Olympic Games where he was the editor of that round for its duration.
