One dead, four injured after shooting in Sydney’s south-west

One man is dead and four others are in hospital after a shooting in Sydney’s south-west.

It is believed to be the latest instance of gangland violence amid ongoing conflict between organised crime groups.

“We don’t know the motive for the attack, but we certainly believe that it was a targeted attack,” NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon told 2GB on Wednesday.

Police were called to Liverpool Hospital about 8.30pm on Tuesday after two men, aged 28 and 32, presented with multiple wounds.

Despite treatment for a gunshot wound, the younger man died a short time later. The other man remains in a serious but stable condition with a neck injury, police said.

A man has died and four others have been seriously injured following a south-west Sydney shooting, which is believed to be organised crime-related.

Two men, aged 28 and 32, presented with multiple wounds to Liverpool Hospital at about 8:30pm on Tuesday, with police called to attend.

The 28-year-old underwent treatment for a gunshot injury, but died a short time later.

The other man remains in a stable condition with a neck injury.

Shortly after 8:40pm, another two men, aged 23 and 22, attended Fairfield Hospital in a serious condition.

Voss resigned as coach on Tuesday with the Blues on an eight-match losing streak.

Michael Voss has struck a defiant tone after leaving Carlton, insistent the AFL club is in better shape than when he started as coach.

While Voss said there was no animosity with the Blues and he was at peace with the decision to resign in his fifth season, he admitted to great frustration that the wins did not come.

Head of List Management Nick Austin has departed the Carlton Football Club.

The Carlton Football Club can confirm that Head of List Management Nick Austin has departed the football club today.

Austin held discussions with the Club late this afternoon, during which time he made the decision to move on from his position in order to allow the Club to continue through its current period of transition.

Austin leaves IKON Park after more than five years in the role, having arrived on the eve of the 2020 AFL season.

“Our club thanks Nick for his commitment and dedication to the football club over the last five years,” Carlton General Manager of Football Chris Davies said.

Man killed in Lakemba pile-up, traffic chaos continues

Follow along as we bring you all of the major crime, traffic and weather updates throughout your day.

Police have confirmed a man died in the multi-vehicle accident on a major road in Lakemba, in Sydney’s west.

Emergency services were called about 11.40am following reports of a two-vehicle crash which had trapped both drivers. Upon arrival, they found another seven vehicles had also collided. It is believed both incidents are linked.

The deceased is yet to be formally identified, while multiple other drivers have been freed by paramedics and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Canterbury Rd is closed in both directions between Chapel St and Haldon St. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Daystar President Joni Lamb Passes on to Her Heavenly Home

The Daystar TV ministry has announced that its President and co-founder, Joni Lamb, has gone home to be with the Lord. She was 65 years old.

The ministry reveals that Joni had been having a serious, private health struggle that was recently made worse by a back injury.

"The back injury compounded those challenges and led to a more serious medical situation than anyone anticipated. Despite the dedicated efforts of her medical team and the prayers of so many around the world, her condition worsened in the last few days," the ministry revealed in a statement.

Joni was married for 39 years to her first husband, Marcus, co-founder of the ministry. He passed away in 2021 after the couple had spent more than three decades working to broadcast God's message of salvation around the world. She remarried in 2023 to Dr. Doug Weiss, who joined her as a co-host on Daystar.

Daystar Television Network President Joni Lamb Has Died at 65

On Thursday, May 7, Joni Lamb, the cofounder and president of Daystar Television Network, died at the age of 65.

“With heavy hearts, we share the news that Joni Lamb graduated to Heaven this morning,” Daystar posted on social media. “We know that she is in the presence of Jesus, reunited with Marcus, and receiving her reward for a beautiful life lived in surrender to the Lord.”

“Joni has been an inspiration to millions, but most of all to her family and all of us at Daystar,” the statement continued. “She has modeled what it means to be fearless, to be bold, and to stand for righteousness even when it’s unpopular. Her love and compassion for people were unparalleled. She will be so greatly missed.”
