Francisco Lindor, Storm Reid surprise Gauff at Australian Open

Media day was anything but routine for Coco Gauff on Friday, as she was surprised by Major League Baseball star Francisco Lindor and Emmy Award-winning actress Storm Reid.

Media day at WTA Tour Driven by Mercedes-Benz tournaments are generally predictable, with routine commitments and expected questions from journalists.

But it was anything but for World No. 3 Coco Gauff in Melbourne on Friday.

At the end of her opening press conference, the two-time Grand Slam champion was asked a rather unconventional question by a "journalist."

"I'm wearing your shoes," he said as a surprised Gauff started laughing. "Do you think I could be your doubles partner this weekend?"

Coco Gauff Unveils Francisco Lindor's New Balance Shoes at Australian Open

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor surprised Coco Gauff during his visit to the Australian Open. Posing as a reporter at her pre-tournament press conference and wearing her signature New Balance Coco CG2 shoes, Lindor jokingly offered to be her doubles partner.

Even better, he also gifted her his brand-new signature Lindor v3, officially revealing his latest model. It was a first-look for media and fans alike. Storm Goretti live: rail services suspended, flights cancelled and schools closed across UK

Road, rail and air travel disrupted as Storm Goretti brings wind, rain and snow to the UK and parts of Europe

Fresh weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued by the Met Office for much of Scotland and the north of England on Sunday.

A yellow warning covering large parts of Scotland, the East and West Midlands, north-east and north-west England and Yorkshire will come into force at 2am on Sunday, expected to run until 3pm.

As Storm Goretti sweeps across the UK and pummels parts of the nation with wind, rain and snow, many local authorities in England and Wales activated or extended the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) in recent days – providing emergency accommodation to people sleeping rough who are at risk of harm or death.

Storm Goretti brings snow for only parts of region

The impact of Storm Goretti on the south was less severe than anticipated, with snow only falling in higher areas.

Several containers fell from two cargo ships off the Isle of Wight amid strong winds.

Snow was reported in areas including Chipping Norton and Nettlebed in Oxfordshire overnight.

There was disruption in Dorset with flooding and gusts of up to 65mph (105km/h).

Prof Liz Bentley, chief executive of the Reading-based Royal Meteorological Society, said wet roads and pavements were likely to turn icy overnight but that there would be no more snow.
