Fans react after major news about Bruce McAvaney emerges on Melbourne Cup day
Horse racing fans are expressing their delight after it was revealed that Bruce McAvaney will be part of the Melbourne Cup coverage on Tuesday for the first time in seven years. The legendary commentator hasn't called the $10 million race at Flemington since Channel 7 last held the coverage in 2019.
The 73-year-old is still contracted to Channel 7 and is a mainstay on the network's horse racing coverage throughout the year. For the last few years he's led Channel 7's coverage of the 'Big Dance' at Royal Randwick in Sydney on Cup day, which runs at the same time as the race that stops the nation on Channel 9.
