Second Test live updates: Aussies facing embarrassing follow-on after horror session

Steve Smith receives a clap from his teammates and the fans as he moves to 11,000 career runs in Test cricket.

He’ll want a lot more than that this afternoon to help Australia.

Beau Webster can’t make the most of his life and he’s out of there.

There’s been some really irrational shots from Australia today and this is another one.

Jansen put the ball outside off stump and Webster threw his hands at the ball with Aiden Markram taking a great slips catch.

Webster goes for 12. Any danger of some sensible batting? Feels like Australia has watched Renshaw last match and decided that’s not the recipe for success.

Steve Smith passes 11,000 Test runs, the 12th player to do so and the third Australian after Allan Border and Ricky Ponting.

Smith is on 28 not out from 84 balls so far today and each one of those runs has been hard-earned.

Webster is gone properly now, he nicked a rising ball from Jansen and it was caught at slip.

Aiden Markram took an excellent catch, the Proteas haven’t dropped their chances today.

It may have nicked but not dislodged the bail, either way, it didn’t hit his bat.

Australia's batting is back under the microscope after Marnus Labuschagne's latest disappointment headlined a collapse to 6-69 at lunch on day four in Gqeberha.

Labuschagne was out for 14 on Wednesday morning, with Marco Jansen's four wickets blowing the door wide open for the Proteas after their first-innings 9(dec)-425.

South Africa can now eye off bowling Australia out for 225 or less to set up a follow on, and pursue victory at St George's Park to level the series at 1-1 with a Test to play.
