Qantas launches Australia's first-ever non-stop flights to Cape Town
Australia is getting its first non-stop link to Cape Town, with Qantas opening bookings today for a Sydney service launching on 19 October 2027. The seasonal route will put travellers in South Africa’s Mother City the same afternoon, removing the connecting flight from one of the country’s major holiday destinations.
Operating three times a week through to March 2028, the new service will add almost 30,000 seats between Australia and South Africa over the season, timed for Cape Town’s summer.
It is a significant expansion of Qantas’ South African network, which already connects Sydney and Perth with Johannesburg. For Australians heading straight to Cape Town, it removes the need to transit through another airport before reaching the city.
