Trump may ask allies for help in Iran. Voters say that’s a good move

Washington | Nearly half of Americans and two-thirds of Republican voters say allies who publicly back a military operation should also send their own troops, according to a new poll that raises tough questions about how the Albanese government manages the US relationship during the war in Iran.

The survey of 1000 voters conducted by YouGov for the Australian strategic advisory firm Bondi Partners found 44 per cent agreed or strongly agreed with the view, while fewer than one in five (19 per cent) disagreed, putting the Albanese government’s posture at odds with many Americans. The balance was neutral (27 per cent) or unsure (10 per cent).

Ghost of Gallipoli: US warships cannot control the Strait of Hormuz

One factor should dominate global strategic policymaking today: that the Strait of Hormuz will re-open only with the consent of the Iranian government. No amount of US naval power can either force passage or safeguard transit.

So Raelene Lockhorst’s Strategist article on 9 March on the effect of its closure on Australia should be taken with deadly seriousness, now, by Australian policy makers.

On the surface, access through the Strait of Hormuz appears to be a naval challenge. And on the surface, the United States Navy has the upper hand. It has almost a fifth of its carrier fleet in the region—the USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS Gerald R Ford—plus a huge escort force. The US military can eliminate all Iranian maritime activity. To date, it appears to have sunk 30 Iranian vessels.

Australian hospitals on alert after Iranian hackers attack medical technology company Stryker

Hackers affiliated with Iran have targeted Fortune 500 company Stryker.  (Four Corners: Cyber War)

Australian hospitals are on alert following the hacking of a US multinational, Stryker, which sells medical and surgical equipment.

The Handala group, which is affiliated with Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and Cyber Security, claimed responsibility for the cyber attack.

There are fears that if the Iran conflict drags on, critical infrastructure like energy, banking and finance may become the next targets.

Hospitals across the nation are on alert after an Iranian cyber militia with reported links to the Islamic Republic hacked a US multinational that supplies critical equipment to Australia.

Hacker group Handala claimed responsibility for attack that caused ‘global disruption’ to Stryker Corporation’s systems

An Iran-linked group said it hacked a US medical company, causing “global disruption” to its systems, in retaliation for the bombing of the Minab school in Iran, in an attack seen as widening the Middle East into the cyber realm.

Handala, a hacker group, claimed responsibility for the attack on Wednesday on the Stryker Corporation, which makes medical devices and is based in Michigan. It affected thousands of employees using the company’s Microsoft systems.

Iran appears to have conducted a significant cyberattack against a U.S. company, a first since the war started

An Iran-linked hacker group has claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on a medical tech company in what appears to be the first significant instance of Iran’s hacking an American company since the start of the war between the countries.

The company, Stryker, which is headquartered in Michigan, produces a range of medical equipment and technology.

Historically, Iran has conducted some of the most infamous “wiper” cyberattacks on national enemies, aiming to simply erase all data on computers’ networks. Victims include Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia’s national oil company, in 2012, and the Sands Casino in 2014.

Since the war started, some established hacker groups sympathetic to Iranian leadership have claimed minor attacks, but most have been relegated to briefly altering the appearance of a website, and none have appeared to have had major impact. Some tech and cybersecurity companies, including Google, and the email cybersecurity company Proofpoint have told NBC News that they have largely seen Iran’s hackers conducting espionage related to the war.

History-makers Uzbekistan dream big at Women's Asian Cup

History-making Uzbekistan are targeting a major upset against South Korea in the Women's Asian Cup quarter-finals, with coach Kotryna Kulbyte on Friday urging her players to keep dreaming big.

The two sides clash in Sydney on Saturday with direct qualification to the 2027 World Cup in Brazil guaranteed for the winner.

While South Korea — the 2022 Asian runners-up — are making their fourth consecutive appearance in the knockout rounds, it is a first for the Uzbeks.

"There's always the danger of getting too emotional but it's part of the game. If you don't live and appreciate the moment, then there's no point," she said.

Women's Asian Cup tiers: Every participating nation, ranked

With four goals to her name already, ESPN's The Far Post laud Alanna Kennedy's move into the midfield and how her goalscoring is helping the Matildas. (1:40)

The Women's Asian Cup is moving into the knockout stage where 12 teams become eight, and every game is must win. Progression through the tournament isn't the only thing on the line either, with these next few games determining Women's World Cup qualification as well.

But the group stage concluding is the perfect time to assess how every team — still in contention and eliminated — is placed.

Not just a great piece of baseball media, it's the most apt description for Japan so far this tournament. Yes, the context of their group should be noted; they played three games for three wins, three clean sheets, and 17 goals scored. Their FIFA ranking? Eight. Their group opponent with the next closest ranking? Chinese Taipei at 40.

Epic Games increases Fortnite V-Bucks "to help pay the bills"

Epic Games is raising the price of Fortnite's in-game currency to "help pay the bills" because "the cost of running Fortnite has gone up a lot."

As detailed in a blog post, the cost increase will take effect at the start of the next battle royale season on March 19, 2026.

The biggest changes are to the four V-Bucks packs offered to players:

Players subscribed to the monthly Fortnite Crew membership will now receive 800 V-Bucks instead of 1,000.

Bonus currency rewards will also be removed from Fortnite's main battle pass, while the pass itself will decrease in price from 1,000 V-Bucks to 800.

Fortnite's three other game passes (OG, Lego, and Music) will also see a 200 V-Bucks price decrease. An optional season pass will also be made available.

Epic says its Fortnite V-bucks price hike is a ‘direct correlation’ to operating costs

Not content with its sales growth, BYD is now looking to race in F1 alongside Ferrari, Mercedes

Chinese electric-vehicle giant BYD is reportedly exploring an entry into Formula One, a historic move that could potentially expand the grid to 12 teams.

BYD could be the first Chinese team to compete in Formula One, according to a new report, as the electric-vehicle giant has reportedly investigating entry into the top-tier sport.

Bloomberg claims BYD – currently the world’s largest electric-vehicle manufacturer – is evaluating motorsport as a way to accelerate brand recognition as it continues its rapid international expansion, with F1 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans under consideration.

It is unclear whether BYD would enter Formula One as the sport's 12th team or acquire an existing outfit.

Chinese manufacturer BYD reportedly considering major motorsport push

BYD or Build Your Dreams as the initials indicate, is the world’s biggest seller of electric vehicles by volume, and its starting to act in a way that reflects its status. BYD is no flash in the pan in Australia, either. New vehicle sales data at the end of the 2025 calendar year indicated that while legacy brand Nissan had exited the top ten, BYD had rocketed into it, sitting in eighth position. Ahead of Isuzu Ute and MG, BYD is hot on the heels of GWM and Mitsubishi, with only the top five in its sights after that.

It’s an impressive ascent for a brand that hasn’t been in Australia for very long – and a sign that its seriousness about this market is very real. In February this year, VFACTS data indicated that BYD was sitting in sixth place, behind stalwart Hyundai in fifth.

Lakers' LeBron James misses 3rd straight, sits out win vs. Wolves

LOS ANGELES — Lakers star LeBron James remained out for Tuesday night's 120-106 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves because of left foot arthritis and a right hip contusion.

James went through his pregame shooting routine at Crypto.com Arena prior to the Lakers' team walk-through and determined he needed more time to get treatment on his left foot before playing in a game, coach JJ Redick said.

It was James' third straight missed game, the longest stretch the 23-year veteran has been out since he was sidelined the first 14 games of the season with sciatica in his lower back and down his right leg.

Is LeBron James playing tonight? Bulls vs. Lakers injury status

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is available to play Thursday night against the Chicago Bulls, the team announced shortly before tip-off.

James, 41, had missed the Lakers' last three games due to a right hip contusion and left foot arthritis. In the fourth quarter of last Thursday's game against the Denver Nuggets, James took a hard fall and landed on his left elbow. ESPN's Dave McMenamin later reported that head coach JJ Redick said James "was icing his left elbow after the game and that he was experiencing enough discomfort that it caused him to be unable to finish the game."

LeBron James returns for Lakers after missing past 3 games because of injuries

LOS ANGELES (AP) — LeBron James returned to the lineup for the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night against the Chicago Bulls after missing the past three games because of a right hip contusion and arthritis in his left foot.

James, 41, is averaging 21.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and seven assists in 44 games this season, his 23rd in the NBA. He had been a game-time decision to play against the Bulls but was confirmed to be available before tip-off.

The Lakers won all three games without James, including impressive victories over the New York Knicks on Saturday and the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday. Los Angeles is 40-25 and came into the night fourth in the Western Conference with a chance to move ahead of the idle Houston Rockets, who have the same record.

Brisbane Weather: 31°C Heat After Morning Showers as Marine Wind Warning Issued

brisbane weather is set for 31°C heat today following morning showers, with a Queensland marine wind warning issued. The pattern is focused on Brisbane North for today and the Redlands Coast for tomorrow. Morning showers are expected to clear into warmer daytime conditions while coastal waters face the marine wind warning.

Headlines list 31°C as the daytime temperature after morning showers, and a Queensland marine wind warning has been issued for coastal areas. The marine wind warning is a central element of the outlook for coastal waters and remains linked with the morning showers and later heat.

Brisbane Weather: Morning Showers, 31°C Heat, Marine Wind Warning for Queensland

Brisbane starts Friday under a veil of humid weather, with morning showers sweeping across the city. Early temperature readings indicate conditions around 23.7°C to 24°C. Cloud cover and brief rain periods are anticipated to persist in the morning hours.

Forecasters predict scattered rain showers throughout the day, though only minor rainfall amounts of 1 mm to 25 mm are expected, varying by suburb. These showers will diminish later in the day, paving the way for warmer temperatures.

Brisbane’s winds are currently light, blowing from the east-southeast at around 4 km/h. Occasional gusts reach up to 11 km/h, contributing to humid conditions across the area. Air quality remains fair despite the cloudiness and precipitation.

The data proves what everyone is feeling — Sydney is currently sweating through a prolonged spell of abnormal humidity.

Moisture levels during recent weeks have even rivalled Queensland's southern tropics in the middle of the wet season, making Sydney's already hot March feel several degrees warmer.

And while a southerly change will bring temporary relief tomorrow, a near-record warm Tasman Sea should maintain warm and muggy weather well into autumn — a trend becoming increasingly frequent in recent years as the sub-tropical climate zone shifts south.

Intense thunderstorms are causing heavy rain in parts of northeast New South Wales and southeast Queensland on Friday, with Byron Bay copping 75 mm of rain in just one hour.

Slow-moving showers and thunderstorm associated with a coastal trough moved over the Northern Rivers district in NSW on Friday morning and early afternoon.

Some of the morning storms dumped hefty rain totals along the coast, with Ballina received 86 mm in the three hours up to 12:15pm AEDT.

Sydney’s sticky weather to turn into severe storms

The sticky, humid weather that has beset Sydney over the past week will transform into heavy rain and thunderstorms on Saturday evening, while a man has been struck by lightning near Wollongong.

Severe weather warnings have been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology, with concerns about flash flooding as a trough of low-pressure systems merge with exceptionally high humidity, producing slow-moving thunderstorms for south-eastern NSW.

A man in his 20s was treated in Robertson, south-west of Wollongong, after being struck by lightning while working on an ice-cream truck. He was taken to Bowral and District Hospital about 3pm on Saturday in a non-life-threatening, stable condition.

'Scrubs' Creator Bill Lawrence On Revival's Ratings & Renewal Chances

Bill Lawrence can breathe a sigh of relief — likely helped by nostalgia and curiosity, the Scrubs reboot launched to impressive ratings last week, amassing 11.36M total cross-platform viewers on ABC, Hulu, Disney+ and digital platforms in its first five days, per Disney.

“I’m so happy and grateful that anybody still cares about that show,” Lawrence said about the revival’s performance during an interview about his latest series, Rooster for HBO, which stars Steve Carell, Charly Clive, Phil Dunster, Danielle Deadwyler and Scrubs alum John C. McGinley.
