    New York: State prosecutors have released a video excerpt of the first police encounter in December last year with Luigi Mangione, then the main suspect in the New York shooting of a healthcare executive five days earlier.

    The video shows Joseph Detwiler, an officer in Altoona, Pennsylvania, questioning Mangione after a McDonald’s restaurant manager had called police to say he resembled the suspect wanted for the killing of UnitedHealth Group executive Brian Thompson on December 4, 2024.

    James May shares poignant tribute after longtime TV collaborator 'dies suddenly'

    James May paid a poignant tribute to his longtime friend and collaborator Will Daws following his sudden death at the age of 57.

    Will Daws, Creator of Hit Shows, Passes Away at 57

    Will Daws, a prominent figure in British television, has passed away at the age of 57. His sudden death occurred in London on a Monday. Daws was a creative force behind numerous successful programs and a co-founder of Plum Pictures.

    Daws began his career as a stand-up comedian before he transitioned to filmmaking. He gained initial recognition for his footage captured during the civil war in Liberia, which he sold to Channel 4. Following this, he moved on to the BBC, where he produced notable docuseries.

    These shows showcased his ability to combine serious topics with light-hearted themes. His work greatly impacted the documentary style in television.

    Today’s Wordle #1634 Hints & Answer For Tuesday, December 9

    The week continues to be sunny and relatively nice out, though I keep hoping for a good snow storm before Christmas. There’s nothing quite so lovely as a white Christmas and it’s pretty rare in my hometown, though not out of the question. Two feet of snow. That’s what I want. A world blanketed in white. A winter wonderland. The muffled stillness the morning takes on when new snow has fallen. For now, I’ll settle for solving this Wordle.

    “Tap and No”: Thousands Hit by Westpac EFTPOS Outage, Leaving Aussies Red-Faced at the Checkout

    A routine midweek shop turned into an awkward scramble for cash on Wednesday after a widespread Westpac EFTPOS outage left thousands of Australians unable to tap their cards at the checkout. From suburban cafés to petrol stations and bottle-os, Westpac merchant terminals suddenly stopped playing ball just after lunchtime.

    According to a report in news.com.au , more than 3,000 customers lodged outage reports not long after 12.30pm. A Westpac spokesperson said the bank was aware some customers were having trouble accessing services and insisted teams were working to restore systems “as quickly as possible”, apologising for the disruption.

    A holding message on Westpac’s phone line went further, confirming “issues impacting merchant terminals” – a clear sign the problem sat squarely in the EFTPOS network rather than a complete banking blackout. Rival majors NAB and Commonwealth Bank said their systems were operating normally, underlining that this was a Westpac-specific headache.

    More than 18,000 users had reported to Downdetector that they have an issue with Temu.

    Temu faced significant disruptions on Tuesday, affecting a large number of its users. Reports collected by Downdetector.com indicated that over 2,000 users encountered difficulties with the platform by 3:51 p.m. PT. The majority of these complaints centered around issues with the mobile app.

    As the situation escalated, the number of reported problems surged. By 4:29 p.m., more than 6,000 users had reached out to Downdetector to report issues. This number continued to climb, with over 8,500 reports logged by 4:49 p.m.

    The downward trend persisted, and by 5:32 p.m., nearly 14,000 users had indicated they were experiencing difficulties with Temu. The situation peaked shortly after, with Downdetector recording over 18,000 reports of issues by 5:55 p.m.
