The under-siege halves pairing has been heavily scrutinised in the opening weeks of the 2026 NRL season – as poor errors and a lack of discipline have stymied the Roosters attack.

Watch: Thick smoke billows from South Korea car parts plant in deadly fire

South Korean authorities say 11 people were killed when a huge fire engulfed a car parts plant in the central city of Daejeon. Three others are still missing and 59 were injured.

Videos show huge flames and thick smoke pouring from the building, with firefighters struggling to contain the blaze. There were 170 workers inside when it broke out.

Firefighters said they were unable to enter the structure earlier due to concerns it would collapse. There was also a risk of igniting sodium stored there.

An overnight search began for those missing, after the building was deemed safe to enter. Authorities did not immediately confirm the cause of the blaze, but said it appeared to have spread rapidly.

A fire at a car parts factory in South Korea has killed 14 people and injured almost 60 others.

Firefighters said all of the missing are now accounted for after a search operation of the wreckage of the three-storey building.

Video footage of the blaze at the factory in Daejeon seemingly showed people jumping from the first floor to escape.

Nam Deuk-woo, a local fire chief, told the New York Times that the fire had spread so quickly that by the time firefighters arrived, workers had already started jumping out of windows.

No one at Canterbury was enamoured with Bronson Xerri’s initial reaction to getting dropped. His second one was much better.

Playing at left centre, his penance for sulking after being shifted to right centre in the top grade, Xerri scored with his first touch in NSW Cup on Saturday afternoon. It was one of several impressive involvements in front of a tiny crowd at Raiders Belconnen that included Bulldogs supremo Phil Gould, who flew in especially for the occasion.

When Xerri scored in the 10th minute, he did so in front of a hill that was occupied by seven spectators. It was a far cry from the bright lights of Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium, the scene of Xerri’s previous appearance in the blue and white this season.

From Dudley Redhead United junior to Australia’s most capped star: Emily van Egmond makes history

From starting out as a junior at Dudley Redhead United to becoming a record-breaking figure on the international stage, Emily van Egmond’s journey is the stuff of dreams.

Van Egmond, a Northern NSW Football product, officially became the most capped Australian footballer of all time on Tuesday evening, when the Matildas took on China PR in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 semi-final.

Van Egmond became Matilda #172 on March 6 2010, when she took the field against Korea DPR.

She played her first major tournament the following year, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011, where she became the second youngest goalscorer in Women’s World Cup history against Equatorial Guinea.

Van Egmond: Sharing your career with your best mates is special

CommBank Matildas midfielder Emily van Egmond reflected on her special career after becoming the most-capped national team player against China PR on Tuesday evening.

She was speaking after the team’s 2-1 semi-final victory where they secured their place in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026™ final. Van Egmond came off the bench in the second half to make her 170th appearance for the side.

“A lot of us have grown up together from a young age,” she said.

“What makes this team quite unique is the friendships that we've formed from a young age now, and to be able to share your career with some of your best mates is really special. I couldn't be more proud to become the most capped player alongside this group of girls.”

From father to daughter: the most beautiful Matildas tribute you’ll read to celebrate Australian sporting history

“Come on, dad,” Gary van Egmond recalls his daughter, Emily, saying as a child.

“It was always her saying to me, come and have a kick – I was looking forward to watching sport on Fox Sports or something like that on TV!

“We’d go down to the netball courts and it was a case of, all right, we’ve got to hit the pole.

“And I remember the first time we did it, I think it took us nearly two and a half hours.

In one beautiful anecdote you get a little snapshot of some of the special qualities that have led Emily van Egmond to 169 Matildas caps, on the cusp of standing on her own as the most capped Australian international footballer when the Matildas face China in the Women’s Asian Cup semi final in Perth on Tuesday night.

While most coaches sit at the front — a throne of authority staring at the road ahead — Wayne sits at the back, right in the middle of the players’ space.

NRL: NZ Warriors halfback Tanah Boyd feeding critics humble pie with scintillating season start

Knowledgeable NRL commentators and armchair critics alike are taking a long, hard look at themselves in the mirror, wondering what they missed about Tanah Boyd.

Those feelings of regret are probably amplified, if you're on the Gold Coast Titans football staff, who let the unheralded halfback slip through their fingers and across the Tasman last season, landing at NZ Warriors HQ.

After five years and 69 first-grade games for the Titans, Boyd needed a change of scenery, and signed a two-year deal that saw him buried on a depth chart and initially consigned to reserve grade.

MRC make surprise call on Kotoni Staggs’ dangerous throw

The NRL's match review committee have elected to not charge Kotoni Staggs over a dangerous throw during Thursday night's game against the Parramatta Eels.

The Brisbane Broncos centre was penalised and placed on report for the second half offence.

The tackle, which came as Parramatta looked for space down the left-hand side of the park with the score reading 28 to 26 at the time, saw Staggs make a one-on-one lifting tackle on Parramatta five-eighth Jonah Pezet.

Pezet landed on the point of his shoulder, rather than his head or neck, but clearly went past the horizontal and went on report for the offence.

Recall issued for Biocheese Pty Ltd’s Cheddar Shred 200g amid undeclared allergen

A popular vegan product is being recalled as authorities fear it contains an undeclared allergen.

Biocheese’s Cheddar Shred in the 200g is being recalled as it contains undeclared milk which may be an allergen for some consumers.
