The former world No.1, yet to advance beyond the quarter-finals at any event this season, revealed afterwards on Saturday that she's battling a virus and had her temperature and blood pressure checked after losing the opening two games of the deciding set.
Li earns second top 10 win in Madrid as Swiatek retires in third set
World No. 34 Ann Li earned her highest ranked win of her career, defeating World No. 4 Iga Swiatek 7-6 (4), 2-6, 3-0 ret. in a match that saw both players save set points in the opening set. Swiatek ultimately retired with an illness.

Though not ending the way Li envisioned, the American upset World No. 4 Iga Swiatek 7-6 (4), 2-6, 3-0 ret. to earn her second top 10 win 12 tries, and the highest ranked win in her career.
"Defintely knew it was going to be a tough match, I'm super sorry for her that she's had to pull out, it's never easy to go like that," Li said to press. "I was just super proud of the way that I fought and I pushed through."
