Itâs that time of year again: clocks will move forward one hour on Sunday in many parts of Australia as daylight saving time comes into effect.
Daylight saving returns on the first Sunday of October every year and ends on the first Sunday of April.
In 2026, daylight saving time will recommence on Sunday 4 October at 2am Australian eastern standard time (AEST).
Clocks will move forward one hour to 3am, giving an extra hour of afternoon daylight.
Businesses and residents want state to revisit daylight saving
A debate as old as time has resurfaced in Queensland as business groups and individuals fresh attempts to bring daylight saving to the Sunshine State, or at least to its south-eastern corner.
But the Queensland government has quashed calls for another referendum on the topic, despite thousands signing petitions to revisit the perennial debate and businesses saying productivity is being undermined without it.
