    India Under-19 252 (Trivedi 68, Chouhan 35, Subhan 3-33) beat Pakistan Under-19 194 (Usman 66, Zahoor 42, Mhatre 3-21, Khilan 3-35) by 58 runs

Pakistan Under-19 neither succeeded in qualifying for the semi-final nor managed a win against India Under-19 in the last Super Sixes match of the Under-19 World Cup. Two absolute points and significant net-run-rate points behind India, Pakistan needed to chase down the target of 253 in 33.3 overs, but they never quite went for that outrageous chase on a difficult surface with variable bounce. However, as the game got deeper, the pitch got more and more difficult to bat on, scuttling even the regulation chase, which looked good till 33.3 overs.

Vihaan Malhotra's unbeaten century and fifties from Abhigyan Kundu and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi set up India's comprehensive win over Zimbabwe in their first match of the Super Sixes stage of the 2026 Under-19 World Cup in Bulawayo. India set a target of 353 for the tournament co-hosts and never looked troubled during the chase as they skittled Zimbabwe for 148 with 12.2 overs to spare.

India's quicks RS Ambrish and Udhav Mohan shared five wickets between them, while their captain Ayush Mhatre picked up three late wickets as Zimbabwe lost their last six for as many runs.

U19 World Cup: Sameer Minhas powers Pakistan to victory over New Zealand

Sameer Minhas scored unbeaten 76-run knock as Pakistan beat New Zealand by eight wickets in the Super Sixes fixture of the ICC Men's U19 World Cup 2026 at Harare Sports Club on Tuesday.

The Green Shirts chased down the 111-run target for the loss of two wickets in 17.1 overs.

Openers Hamza Zahoor and Minhas set the tone early, as the duo dealt in boundaries to put pressure on the New Zealand bowling attack with a solid partnership to launch the chase.

The partnership was broken when Zahoor was dismissed for eight off 11 balls, including two fours, by Mason Clarke, leaving the team at 18-1 after 2.5 overs.

Half-centuries from Faisal Shinozada, Khalid Ahmadzai and Uzairullah Niazai along with a combined bowling effort helped Afghanistan stun South Africa in the Under-19 World Cup in Windoek.

In the 267 chase, South Africa were 175 for 5 at the end of the 40th over, with Jason Rowles on 97. But he was run out in the next over for 98, following which South Africa struggled to keep up with the scoring rate, with a couple of big hits from Corne Botha bringing the equation down to 39 off 24 balls. But Khatir Stanikzai had Botha caught at the end of the 47th over to leave South Africa at 237 for 8, following which they lost their last two wickets in the 48th over to hand Afghanistan a win.

Portsmouth 1-4 Arsenal: FA Cup third round – live

A hat-trick from Gabriel Martinelli helped Arsenal come from behind to beat Portsmouth with plenty to spare

Righto, Ed Aarons’ report is with us, which means we’re finished here.

In Scotland, SPL leaders Hearts scraped a 1-0 win at Dundee, playing the whole of the second half with 10 men and requiring a brilliant injury-time save from Craig Gordon to hang on to the points. They lead Celtic and Rangers by six points.

Mousinho reckons it was a contest for 65 minutes, but the better side won. Pompey’s goal came from an aggressive press and his team worked it well after that, but the defending at set-pieces wasn’t good enough. His players can take heart from how they played, but the injuries they’ve suffered are a problem for a thin squad.

Portsmouth 1-4 Arsenal (12 Jan, 2026) Game Analysis

Gabriel Martinelli hit the headlines for the right reasons by scoring a hat-trick as Arsenal overcame an early scare to thrash Championship strugglers Portsmouth 4-1 in the FA Cup third round.

Mikel Arteta's Premier League leaders fell behind less than three minutes into a rain-soaked contest at Fratton Park when Pompey captain Colby Bishop finished from close range.

Andre Dozzell's own goal quickly levelled the tie before Brazil forward Martinelli struck either side of Noni Madueke's penalty miss to put the Gunners in control.

Martinelli, who was widely criticised for attempting to push the injured Conor Bradley off the pitch during Thursday evening's goalless draw with Liverpool, completed his treble in the 72nd minute.

Every word Mikel Arteta said on Arsenal win over Portsmouth, Martinelli reaction, Havertz return

Arsenal's Spanish manager Mikel Arteta speaks to the media after FA Cup clash with Portsmouth(Image: Glyn KIRK / AFP via Getty Images)

Mikel Arteta spoke to the media following his side’s win over Portsmouth in the FA Cup third round. Despite the gap between the sides domestically, it was by no means a simple task.

The Gunners, who had seen as many as ten changes from the side that drew with Liverpool on Thursday, were not given a warm welcome and fell behind quickly. However, they were bailed out by three beautifully crafted set pieces.

Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz made their cases for the centre-forward positions as Viktor Gyokeres watched on. Gabriel Martinelli scored his first-ever senior hat-trick for the club too.

Paul Dawson scored the opening goal for Macclesfield against Crystal Palace – watch highlights (UK only)

When the final whistle blew to confirm non-league Macclesfield's stunning FA Cup upset of holders Crystal Palace, it prompted memorable scenes. Fans poured on to the pitch and lifted captain Paul Dawson into the air.

With his head bandaged after a clash early in a remarkable 2-1 win, Dawson embodied the spirit and character of the whole team as they made light of being ranked five divisions and 117 places below their Premier League opponents.

In terms of the difference in league places, it was the greatest shock in the prestigious competition's long history. Thwe gap was not evident on the pitch – Macclesfield fully deserved the result.

Macclesfield beat Crystal Palace 2-1 to make FA Cup history – as it happened

The non-league side caused one of the competition’s great shocks with a brilliant display to beat the team 117 places above them

Last word belongs to Macclesfield skipper Paul Dawson. Beyond scoring the opener, he was absolutely brilliant today, as pointed out by Wayne Rooney after the game. Here’s Dawson, who sometimes has a naughty word in him but not right now:

I won’t swear! It’s an immense achievement to be honest. I’m proud of the boys, proud of everyone, proud of the fans. You can see what it means to them. It’s a real community club and, yeah, I’m really proud.

'So proud': Emotional Wayne Rooney sends manager brother touching message after Crystal Palace upset

Wayne Rooney has congratulated his younger brother, John, after he led Macclesfield to FA Cup victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

John, five years Wayne’s junior, is in his first managerial job but outfoxed Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace, winning 2-1 after goals from Paul Dawson and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts cancelled out Yeremy Pino’s late consolation.

It is, statistically, the biggest FA Cup upset of all time. Macclesfield and Crystal Palace are separated by 117 places in the football pyramid, the largest ever disparity in an FA Cup victory.

It is also the first time the competition’s holder has been knocked out by a non-league side since Crystal Palace themselves did so in 1909, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers.

FA Cup third round: 10 things to look out for this weekend

Macclesfield and Weston-super-Mare carry the non-league hopes while fringe players need to seize their chances

Silly goals conceded, chances missed, a lead surrendered and points squandered against relegation fodder. On the face of things, Manchester United have changed manager but nothing else. The reality is different. They started slowly at Burnley, settling into a 4-2-3-1 formation that suits them – and pretty much every other team – far better than Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 before, midway through the first half, they started to play. The deployment of Bruno Fernandes close to the opposition goal, along with a wide player, Patrick Dorgu, playing on his natural side, meant Benjamin Sesko was, for the first time, provided with decent service. Then, following Jaidon Anthony’s equaliser, Darren Fletcher’s side risked defeat by going all out for the win – one nearly achieved through the timely introduction of Shea Lacey, a richly talented 18-year-old. Brighton will present far stiffer opposition but, for the first time in a long time, United are doing what United are meant to do. Daniel Harris
