Deadloch season two review – every bit as wonky, devilish and potty-mouthed as the first

The Emmy-nominated crime comedy swaps chilly Tasmania for the sticky Top End – and all its croc-related misadventures

There’s no doubt which principal character reflects the heart, soul and warped humour of Deadloch, the darkly comedic and wigged-out police procedural created and written by Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan. It’s certainly not Kate Box’s senior sergeant Dulcie Collins: a generally calm and considered detective who doesn’t rush to judgment. It’s her partner Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami), a thunderously loud, incongruous, decorum-breaking force of nature who doesn’t so much speak as screech, howl and bluster, as if trying to strangle the air itself, particle by particle.

‘Let’s throw everything at it’: Why Deadloch’s second season may be its last

The Kates wanted to get season 2 of their smash-hit crime-comedy just right – because they’re not sure there will be a season 3.

Long before season one aired, the Kates – creators, writers and spirit guides Kate McCartney (the tall one) and Kate McLennan (“the one with the teeth”, as her Instagram profile has it) – knew that if they got to make a second season of their genre-bending comedy crime procedural Deadloch it would be set in the Top End rather than Tasmania.

“When we were writing the season one pilot we had scenes in the Northern Territory, where we met Eddie [Madeleine Sami’s detective Eddie Redcliffe] before Eddie came to Deadloch,” explains McLennan.

Deadloch was already the most ambitious show on Australian TV. Its new season is even wilder

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them anytime.

When Deadloch’s first season dropped in 2023, it was already the most ambitious show on Australian television. A wild odd-couple comedy, incisive social satire and genuinely compelling whodunit thriller that also ruthlessly mocked the genre itself. It was a feminist satire of self-serious prestige crime shows and Scandi-noir that was so aggressively Aussie it threw around terms like “c— punch” without anyone blinking an eye.

Remarkably, the second season of this Emmy-nominated series has even more going on.

There’s a shift in location, from Tasmania to the Top End, which upends the established “Tassie noir” aesthetic. An injection of earnest backstory for the show’s most absurd screwball character. A deepened focus on racial politics. And a series of mysteries that involve not just outlandish locals (including a vile Steve Irwin-style crocodile celebrity hilariously played by Luke Hemsworth), but law enforcement itself.

The Madison review – Michelle Pfeiffer’s new drama is thuddingly simplistic

This yawnsome homespun six-parter from the creator of Yellowstone aims to teach the womenfolk a lesson by dropping them into untamed, plain-talkin’ Montana. It’s full of terrible jokes and cloying aphorisms

Preston Clyburn (Kurt Russell) is laughing at trout. “Hah-hah,” says the rugged retiree, up to his buttocks in river as a Yellowstone cutthroat sploshes obligingly into his net. “I’m keepin’ it, and you’re cookin’ it,” he barks at his younger brother, Paul, who would rather Preston release the hapless vertebrate back into the wild but nevertheless respects his sibling’s need to connect with his inner Cro-Magnon (“the love of fishin’ goes back to early man …”).

'The Madison' Review: Michelle Pfeiffer Is Emmy-Worthy in Woeful Taylor Sheridan Drama

A river runs through The Madison, Taylor Sheridan‘s (Yellowstone) latest ode to the open spaces and unspoiled beauty of Montana. (Indeed, 1992’s A River Runs Through It has its own cameo in the series, which gives a shout-out to the late actor/director Robert Redford after the first episode.) The river is the Madison, never to be confused with Manhattan’s Madison Avenue — or anything else associated with the Big City, anathema to the pure souls who inhabit the Western heartland.

Ever flowing, a symbol of life and nourishment of the soul, the Madison (gorgeously shot by director of photography and series director Christina Alexandra Voros) becomes a place of healing for the sinfully wealthy Clyburn family. Most especially for matriarch Stacy (a luminous Michelle Pfeiffer), who resisted the call of the wild for years until a terrible tragedy beckons her entire family of “city mice” to abandon the world of luxury townhouses for an outpost with an outhouse.

‘The Madison’ premieres today: Here’s how to watch and what to know about Taylor Sheridan’s new show

A new drama series from Taylor Sheridan premieres this week, and while it’s set near the famed Dutton ranch, it reportedly has nothing to do with the family from Sheridan’s hit series, Yellowstone. The Madison follows a family dealing with grief (and a move from New York City to Montana). Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell star in the six-episode series, along with Will Arnett The Madison premieres with its first three episodes this Saturday, exclusively on Paramount+. Here’s what else you need to know about Taylor Sheridan’s new show.

Paramount+ offers subscribers access to the new Taylor Sheridan show, The Madison, loads of sports, including some March Madness games, the NFL, soccer and more.

LIVE REVIEW: LINKIN PARK ‘End Zero World Tour’ With Special Guests POLARIS

This would have to be one of the most anticipated tours of the last year. The new look, new sounding Linkin Park has tongues wagging ever since the decided to move forward with Emily Armstrong fronting the band.

It’s a bold move for any band to move forward after a tragic loss of a frontman. Everyone from AC/DC has had their share of trial by fire with fans. For me while it was a very bold move to decide to move forward in Chester Bennington’s passing. Picking a female front was even more of a gamble.

With the last record End Zero we saw a rebirth of the band and a new approach. So, live how would this all work …. I will get to that in a moment.

Linkin Park's Triumphant Return to Australia: A Unforgettable Performance

Linkin Park opened the Australian leg of its From Zero World Tour in Brisbane on March 3, marking the band’s first show in Australia since 2013 and the first local performance with co-vocalist Emily Armstrong. At Brisbane Entertainment Centre, the Linkin Park From Zero World Tour set featured four acts, an encore, and a 27-song setlist. Emily Armstrong joined longtime members as the band mixed Chester Bennington-era hits with new material from ARIA #1 album From Zero. Highlights included Mike Shinoda’s Fort Minor selections, a mash-up segment, and a solo for DJ Joe Hahn. Remaining dates include Melbourne on March 8 and 10, Adelaide on March 12, and Sydney on March 14 and 15.

Rock legends Linkin Park are bringing their high-octane From Zero World Tour to Melbourne and it’s set to be nothing short of monumental. After all, this is their first visit to Australia since 2013 (and first with Emily Armstrong as lead singer), meaning anticipation is through the roof.

Linkin Park will be taking over Rod Laver Arena on Sunday 8 March and Tuesday 10 March, performing new hits like The Emptiness Machine and Heavy Is The Crown, as well as iconic anthems from their 20+ year career that have garnered billions of streams (and probably quite a few sore throats because you can’t sing “in the end it doesn’t really matter” with an inside voice).

Rooster review – Steve Carell and a naked college president add wisdom to this cringe comedy drama

The master of the everyman gifts us some hard-won parenting insights in this blissfully awkward show about a father and daughter relationship

Humankind, as TS Eliot’s bird said in Burnt Norton, cannot bear too much reality. That feels especially salient now, when we have more reality arriving in a day than we used to have to process in a year.

At the same time, unless you go the whole high-fantasy hog and offer 100% escapism via immersion in a completely alternative world, it is becoming trickier for your audiences to believe in you at all. Programmes set in the real world have to acknowledge the new way of it. Pure, frothy comedy just became that much harder to pull off – and it was never easy. But walking the line between too much reality and not enough is almost as difficult.

If you miss The Office, Steve Carell’s new show is a must-watch

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them anytime.

Americans love a college campus as a TV backdrop, offering as it does various tropes: fish-out-of-water; workplace comedy; the politics around tenure; and the biggie, the professor-student relationship.

This new comedy from Ted Lasso’s Bill Lawrence and his Scrubs co-creator Matt Tarses has a bit of all of these tropes. The 10-part series stars Steve Carell as the fish out of water in what becomes a workplace comedy.

Carell is bestselling author Greg Russo, whose pulpy action novels feature a character called Rooster, who sports an open shirt and a six-pack on the book covers, and a passing resemblance to Russo himself. (Lawrence and Tarses based the character on high-concept Florida author Carl Hiaasen, inspired after they adapted Hiaasen’s Bad Monkey for the 2024 TV series).

Ted Season 3's Fate Seemingly Confirmed By Seth MacFarlane Ahead Of Record-Setting Show's Return

With the show proving a hit in its debut, Seth MacFarlane has seemingly confirmed Ted season 3's status.

Created by and starring the five-time Emmy winner, the Peacock series serves as a prequel to his films from the 2010s, exploring the titular sentient teddy bear and friend John Bennett's teenage years. Also starring Max Burkholder as John, taking over the role from Mark Wahlberg, frequent MacFarlane collaborator Scott Grimes, Euphoria's Alanna Ubach and The Punisher's Giorgia Whigham, Ted season 1 scored largely positive reviews and solid viewership to net a season 2 renewal.

In honor of season 2's premiere, ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns interviewed Seth MacFarlane to discuss Ted season 2. When asked about both the in-development animated series, which is serving as a sequel to his films, and a potential season 3, the creator/star confirmed that "as of now, there are no direct plans" to continue the live-action show, seemingly sealing its fate ahead of its return.

‘Ted,’ the Horny Teddy Bear, Spills All His Dirty Secrets

You thought going to high school in the ’90s was rough? Try being an anthropomorphic teddy bear wished to life by a child.

That’s the gripe for Ted, the diminutive stuffy forced to accompany now-teenaged John Bennett through the halls of his Massachusetts high school—and all of the awkward adolescent milestones encountered along the way.

Ted is less of an emotional support toy for John than a wrecking ball of naughtiness and chaos, a dynamic we were first introduced to in the 2012 comedy Ted and its 2015 sequel, Ted 2. (Think more “boorish” than “precocious.”)

For fans of the franchise who may have wondered, “What was that incorrigibly horny, pot-addicted, foul-mouthed stuffed animal with clear attachment issues to Mark Wahlberg’s John like 30 years ago,” now there’s Ted, the TV series, whose second season starts streaming March 5.

Pokémon Pokopia Review – A Pleasant Paradise

Since its inception, the Pokémon franchise has been about checking boxes; after all, the famous tagline is “Gotta Catch ‘em All!” Pokémon Pokopia evolves the checklist concept beyond collecting gym badges and catching Pokémon, stripping conflict of any kind from the experience and instead giving you nearly endless tasks to improve your various towns and the overall happiness of the Pokémon therein. And it does so with a loop that mixes elements from Dragon Quest Builders, Animal Crossing, and Minecraft, resulting in one of the best laid-back simulation titles I’ve played in years. Though it maintains an emphasis on collection, it shifts the focus from battling to revitalizing a post-apocalyptic region and reforging our connections not only to the world, but also each other. And just like when the mainline Pokémon series is at its best, I had a difficult time putting it down.

Being Gordon Ramsay review – did we really need six hours of him setting up restaurants?

This six-part extended brand advert follows the TV chef’s attempt to launch numerous eateries under one roof. It’s a lot of restaurant drama to have in your life

Six hours of advertising yourself on Netflix and – presumably – getting paid for providing streamer content at the same time? Nice work if you can get it, and Gordon Ramsay has got it. Being Gordon Ramsay, a six part – six part – documentary, follows the chef ’n’ TV personality as he embarks on his most ambitious venture yet. It’s “A huge undertaking”, “high risk, high reward”, a “once in a lifetime opportunity” and “one of my final stakes in the ground … If it fails, I’m fucked.” It is opening seven billion (five, but it feels like seven billion) restaurants on the top floors of 22 Bishopsgate at once. There is going to be a 60-seat rooftop garden place with retractable roof, a 250-seater Asian-inflected restaurant called Lucky Cat, a Bread Street Kitchen brasserie and a culinary school.

Gordon Ramsay knows how to make great TV, but this Netflix series is beyond bland

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them anytime.

“Let’s go,” Gordon Ramsay urges everyone around him – including himself – throughout this documentary series. The British celebrity chef is on a six-month journey to open a massive food complex with five different restaurants atop the London skyscraper 22 Bishopsgate. Between work and family there’s no time to pause, no space for contemplation. It’s the same with this show, which dashes between household and building site, media work and family events. Much happens, but this expletive-laden narrative is rarely revealing. It lacks flavour.

Directed by Dionne Bromfield and produced by Studio Ramsay Global, the six episodes are crisply made and provide a crafted window into the “real Gordon Ramsay”. That infamous temper? Mellowed apparently, and besides, it was all conveniently in the service of achieving perfection. The show takes inspiration from a previous Netflix success, 2023’s Beckham, which used carefully regulated but nonetheless amusing banter between David and Victoria to create the illusion of insight. We’re in the age of the celebrity-controlled documentary.

Meet Gordon Ramsay's addict brother the TV chef feels deep-rooted 'guilt' over

Gordon Ramsay, 59, may be equally known for his successful culinary empire and his potty-mouthed tirades, but behind the scenes, the celebrity chef is a humble family man, sharing six children with wife Tana. In his new Netflix documentary, Being Gordon Ramsay, cameras follow him to launch his latest venture, restaurants at 22 Bishopsgate, but candid interviews also delve deep into his family relationships, including his troubled heroin addict brother.

In Episode two of the documentary, Gordon was visibly emotional as he shared: "I have a brother who's a heroin addict, we shared a bunk bed, he's 15 months younger than me, and he's been an addict for the last four decades. I've gone to hell and back with him and so I have a guilt complex. That could have been me, it could have been switched." Speaking about his family, he said: "I've been dealt the dysfunctional card."

The 2026 Polestar 4 Is Weird, And That's Just Great

The 2026 Polestar 4 may be a new addition to the automaker's line-up, but it's what's missing which has arguably overshadowed the SUV coupé's arrival. After all, the shapely Porsche Macan Electric rival is priced to sell with its $57,800 starting price — including destination but before some seriously hefty incentives Polestar is offering to make up for the absent EV tax credit — has plenty of power and no shortage of luxury tech. All anyone's talking about, though, is the fact that it doesn't have a rear window.

Polestar insists that replacing the rear glass with a camera's view brings a genuine benefit, allowing the C-pillar and some of the roof's structural support to be pushed back and so, in turn, the rear seats. That means more legroom and headroom back there, plus bigger headrests since they won't block the view out the back. Oh, and filling the trunk to the brim won't impact visibility, either.

For more detailed information, explore updates concerning 2026 Polestar 4.
