Bullish Nancy does not fear sack but Celtic fans display fury after loss to Rangers
Wilfried Nancy insisted he did not fear the sack, claiming, “We are really close to things turning around,” despite the Celtic manager moving dangerously close to dismissal with a comprehensive defeat by Rangers.
Celtic led their oldest rivals at the interval but a second-half capitulation from the hosts allowed Danny Röhl’s team to move level on points with the defending Scottish Premiership champions. Nancy, who was hired from Columbus Crew in December, has presided over six defeats in eight games.
Celtic’s support displayed their anger – towards the board and manager – in their hundreds outside the stadium at full time. The board would be most likely to return to Martin O’Neill, who enjoyed a successful interim spell before Nancy was hired, if the Frenchman were sacked.
Celtic 1-3 Rangers: What the manager said
Rangers head coach Danny Rohl: "I give big respect to my team. In the first half, we tried something, but they were better. They won the 50-50 duels and they played big and fast and behind, it created us a lot of problems.
"We changed at half-time a little bit the style of pressing. We are good in the game then.
"You have two stories, we can turn things in one half to come back 3-1 and win this game and the second story, we have a centre-forward with Youssef [Chermiti] who scores fantastic goals.
"We should enjoy, but tomorrow we have to be again, ready for the next game. This is a demanding league.

Wilfried Nancy’s Celtic nightmare continued after Rangers inflicted a sixth defeat in eight games by scoring three goals in the second half
Wilfried Nancy spent a memorable Friday press conference pleading for time, context and understanding as he visibly struggles with the role of Celtic manager. This outcome – and the nature of it – will do nothing for Nancy’s hopes of keeping his job.
And that’s it from a dramatic afternoon at Celtic Park. A classic game of two halves and another miserable afternoon for Wilfried Nancy. Can he survive this latest setback – especially given the opposition involved?
