Live: Fullback reshuffle as Raiders gun ruled out with injury

Ethan Strange's ankle injury forces Kaeo Weekes to shift from fullback into the halves for Canberra's clash with the Titans on the Gold Coast.

Later, the Eels try to halt the Warriors, before the marquee match-up between the Roosters and Broncos marks the return of Reece Walsh.

Jojo Fifita skips past the Raiders' left-side defence and has them scrambling, but then throws a completely unnecessary offload that Jayden Campbell can't handle.

It may well have gone backwards through his hands, but it's called a knock-on.

    Late Mail: Raiders v Titans

The Toyota Forklifts Canberra Raiders have finalised their 19 for today's clash against the Titans at Cbus Super Stadium, Gold Coast.

Saturday session: Titans v Raiders; Eels v Warriors; Roosters v Broncos

The Titans and Raiders kick off a huge Saturday of action with both sides looking to find some momentum after a sluggish start to the season.

Last year's minor premiers Canberra have won just three games but they arrive on the Gold Coast with a 20-13 overall record against the Titans and wins in the past six matches between the two sides.

From there it's off to CommBank Stadium for a twilight showdown between the high-flying Warriors and the injury-hit Eels, who came back to earth with a bang at Brookie last Sunday after stunning the Bulldogs at home a week earlier.

Live: Hegseth says Iran war is 'not a quagmire' as cost of conflict revealed

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth defended the war against Iran in his first testimony to Congress since February, instead attacking Democrats as "feckless".

Mr Hegseth's comments come as estimates emerge that the war has cost America almost $US25 billion ($35 billion) so far, with the Pentagon requesting a new budget of $US1.45 trillion, up 40 per cent from last year.

Think (almost) everything is getting more expensive because of the war?

The impact of the Iran war is sending shocks through the economy, with Treasurer Jim Chalmers saying Australians are already paying a "hefty price" for the conflict.

To help us make sense of it, Business reporter David Taylor will join us on the blog later today for a Q&A.

Pete Hegseth denied that the US-Israel war on Iran, which the Pentagon estimates has cost the US at least $25bn, is “a quagmire” and claimed critics of the operation posed a greater threat to the US than Iran itself.

Hegseth came under pressure to set out Washington’s strategy for the conflict as he appeared before the House armed services committee on Wednesday for a marathon hearing alongside Gen Dan Caine, chair of the joint chiefs of staff. The US defense secretary asked lawmakers to approve $1.5tn military spending – and then described some of those lawmakers as “the biggest challenge” to the war effort.

Hegseth clashes with lawmakers over Iran war in nearly six-hour-long hearing

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth sparred with Democratic lawmakers during a nearly six-hour-long hearing, in his first time facing questions under oath since the start of the Iran war.

Hegseth appeared before the House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday alongside Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen Dan Caine and the defence department's chief financial officer Jules Hurst.

In his opening remarks, Hegseth said the "biggest adversary we face" is the "defeatist words" of Democrats and some Republicans.

Democratic lawmakers on the committee criticised how federal money is being used in the conflict. Hurst revealed in the hearing that the war had cost the US $25bn (£18.5bn) so far.

‘Whatever you are doing, drop it right away’ – R Ashwin can't keep calm after Vaibhav Sooryavanshi carnage in PBKS vs RR

Former cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin couldn't keep calm after Rajasthan Royals opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi took the likes of Lockie Ferguson and Arshdeep Singh to cleaners during their chase against Punjab Kings in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). In just his second IPL season, Sooryavanshi has already earned the reputation of taking the big boys of world cricket down with his fearless hitting.

Tuesday was no different as the 15-year-old started clobbered Arshdeep for a 6, 4, 4 in the first over of Rajasthan Royals' 223-run chase. The madness from the youngster from Samastipur went on as the southpaw smashed the likes of Ferguson and Marco Jansen for one four and three sixes in the next two overs, racing to 37 runs in just 14 deliveries.

In-form Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was expected to put up another show in New Chandigarh on Tuesday during Rajasthan Royals' clash against Punjab Kings. And he did not disappoint.

The boy wonder is in majestic form this season, having already scored over 300 runs in the six innings he has played.

In the previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sooryavanshi played a magnificent knock of 103 off just 37 balls, completing his second IPL century.

Sooryavanshi played a blistering knock of 43 runs from 16 balls. His innings was decorated with five sixes and three fours. However, Arshdeep Singh removed him with a ball outside off, and Iyer did the rest by taking a catch while back pedalling to deep mid-off.

Live: Trump reviewing new Iranian plan to end war stalemate

The White House says Donald Trump discussed the latest Iranian proposal with top national security aides, adding that the president will have more to say soon.

Tehran's offer would see the Strait of Hormuz reopened if the US abandons its blockade of Iranian ports, with talks on Iran's nuclear program deferred to a later date.

Dozens of nations repeated calls to open the critical waterway in a joint statement led by Bahrain.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres told the Security Council on Monday that the humanitarian toll is mounting.

“These pressures are cascading into empty fuel tanks, empty shelves — and empty plates,” he said.

Iran foreign minister presses on with regional tour despite Trump canceling envoys’ visit

    • Hectic diplomacy: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has landed in Russia to meet with President Vladimir Putin and discuss the status of negotiations, according to state media, after visiting with key mediators in Pakistan and Oman this weekend. Araghchi said earlier that it’s not clear if Washington is “truly serious about diplomacy” after US President Donald Trump scrapped plans for his envoys to visit Pakistan.

    • Peace talks stalled: Trump said talks will continue by phone after Iran declined to meet directly with American negotiators amid ongoing tensions over the Strait of Hormuz. “If they want to talk, they can come to us, or they can call us,” Trump said Sunday and reiterated that the war would “come to an end very soon.”

Live: Trump 'wanted to see' as gunshots rang out and 'probably' made Secret Service act more slowly

US President Donald Trump says he "wanted to see what was happening" when gunshots rang out at the White House correspondents' dinner.

He told a US 60 Minutes interview that he "probably" made the Secret Service act more slowly.

Earlier, acting US Attorney-General Todd Blanche confirmed the US president and other members of his administration were the likely targets.

Earlier today, Patricia Karvelas and Jacob Greber were talking about the impact this latest assassination attempt would have on Donald Trump's popularity in Australia.

Karvelas notes some polling suggests 66% of Australians disapprove of Trump's administration and its actions.

"I think in Australia it doesn't really make much of a difference," she explains on Politics Now.

Anti-Trump sentiment being examined as motive for White House press dinner shooting

Manifesto reportedly written by the suspect had Trump administration officials at top of list

Investigators are looking into anti-Trump sentiment as being a motive for the attacker who sought to breach the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington DC where the US president and top members of his administration were present.

Officials have said that the shooter likely was targeting Donald Trump and other senior administration officials. “We do believe, based upon just a very preliminary start to understanding what happened, that he was targeting members of the administration,” acting US attorney general Todd Blanche said in a TV interview.

Women's Champions League LIVE: Arsenal host Lyon in first leg of semi-final

Winners of tie will play Bayern Munich or Barcelona in final

A great result for Arsenal as they come from behind to beat Lyon but there's still work to be done to reach the Champions League final for the holders.

The second leg will take place at Lyon's Groupama Stadium on Saturday, 2 May (14:00 BST).

Before they can focus on the Champions League second leg, first up for Arsenal is a home game with Leicester City on Wednesday night in the WSL.

They currently trail leaders Manchester City by 11 points but have got five games to play while their rivals have just two.

Olivia Smith’s late strike gives Arsenal edge over OL Lyonnes in WCL semi-final

A calamitous defence error from the goalkeeper Christiane Endler helped defending champions Arsenal to come from behind against OL Lyonnes and ensure they take a narrow lead into next week’s Champions League semi-final second leg in France.

Jule Brand had giving the visiting team, the record eight-time winners of this competition, a first-half lead in front of 26,758 fans at the Emirates Stadium. However, first Endler fumbled the ball into her own net via a deflection off Ingrid Engen as the Gunners upped the pressure in the second half before Olivia Smith gave them the lead late after another defensive mistake.

We're past the 75 minute mark now as Blair Spittal butchers a cross for Hearts. That's his second poor ball since coming on.

Miguel Chaiwa offers Hibs some respite with a good run, going past three opponents before giving the ball away.

Team News: Rohl Names Side To Face Motherwell

DANNY Röhl has named his Rangers team for this afternoon’s Scottish Premiership clash against Motherwell at Ibrox.

The Light Blues are back on the pitch for the first time in a fortnight as the post-match fixtures commence, with the Gers targeting a strong end to the season in the final five outings of the campaign.

From the side that were victorious at Falkirk two weeks ago, the Head Coach has named two changes as Dujon Sterling and Bojan Miovski are in from the off in place of James Tavernier and Mikey Moore.

That means Jack Butland retains his place between the posts, behind a back four consisting of Sterling at right-back, Nasser Djiga and Emmanuel Fernandez continuing in the middle of defence, and Jayden Meghoma in at left-back.

Stephen Welsh in explosive Rangers celebration as Celtic loanee leads Motherwell's Ibrox party

Motherwell's ecstatic Celtic loanee Stephen Welsh couldn't contain his joy after the Steelmen stunned Rangers at Ibrox.

Danny Rohl's men battled back from 2-0 down to level the showdown at Ibrox, before and injury-time winner from Emmanuel Longelo dealt a major blow to the Light Blues' title hopes.

Jens Berthel Askou's men ended a five-game winless streak in Glasgow as they boosted their hopes of snagging a European spot – while offered a boost to Rangers title rivals.

The Hoops – Welsh's parent club – won their game against Falkirk on Saturday to move joint top of the Premiership table with Hearts, who were trailing Edinburgh rivals Hibs 1-0 at Easter Road when the full-time whistle sounded at Ibrox.

The Nationals party leader, Matt Canavan, says the country has spent too much time talking about diversity and not enough on unifying, addressing attenders at the anti-immigration rally outside Parliament House.

Despite having previously condemned Pauline Hanson for her comments against Muslim Australians, Canavan preceded the One Nation leader on stage, and said Australia needed “better standards” on migration.

It’s a similar line to one used by his colleague, the Liberal leader, Angus Taylor – that migration standards have been “too low”.

The 51-year-old patient at the Randwick hospital is alleged to have seriously injured a nurse’s leg about 8.30pm, before assaulting two other nurses and a security guard.

He also allegedly used a garbage bin to attack a 26-year-old woman attempting to shield another patient. The woman was visiting a relative at the time.

Police who were at the hospital on an unrelated matter were alerted to the incident and attempted to speak to the man, only for him to allegedly assault one of the officers.

4 takeaways: Knicks-Hawks Game 3 thrills to final seconds, as CJ McCollum takes over again

Trade acquisitions Jonathan Kuminga and CJ McCollum spark the Hawks to a go-ahead Game 3 victory over the Knicks.

CJ McCollum hits a go-ahead midrange jumper with 12.5 left on the clock and Atlanta seals a Game 3 win on the final possession.

ATLANTA – Game up for grabs, both teams have chances, both sides have capable heroes. So what happens?

Well: There’s a reason the Atlanta Hawks are leading their best-of-seven first round series with the New York Knicks. For the second straight game, they held all the fourth-quarter answers, and in this latest victory, all the closing-second solutions in a game that came down to a final possession.

Knicks-Hawks takeaways: CJ McCollum hits game-winner to give Atlanta 2-1 lead; KAT keeps starting slowly

As expected, the first-round series between the Knicks and Hawks has become must-see TV.

After initiating a 12-point lead after the first quarter of Game 3, Atlanta struggled to keep its distance. New York clawed its way back, leading to an enormously entertaining back-and-forth fourth quarter that saw the Knicks take the lead late. It all went down to the final seconds, with the Knicks failing to get off a shot in their last possession as the Hawks held on 109-108 to take a 2-1 first-round series lead.

These two squads are going blow for blow, and no lead appears safe. Both teams have the capability of getting hot from 3, making it entirely feasible to get back into games, and the collective group of raw talent is severely underrated, making this series ridiculously fun to watch. Not a lot of teams can, in theory, run their offense through both a lead guard and a big man, but that's the case here, even if Karl-Anthony Towns has been struggling in that department (we'll get to it).
