Middle East crisis live: Iran hits Israeli town housing nuclear facility in retaliation for Natanz strike

Iran’s atomic energy organisation accuses the US and Israel of hitting Natanz enrichment complex but says ‘no leakage of radioactive materials’

Iran has claimed it attacked Dimona “after the US and Israel attacked the Bushehr power plant and the Natanz facilities.”

The Iranian Tasnim news agency wrote: “The enemy has once again received an unforgettable lesson. The missile attack on the Dimona area has once again sent a clear message: No area is safe from Iranian missiles. The enemy must surrender before it is too late.”

The Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center, commonly known as the Dimona nuclear reactor, is a nuclear installation located in the Negev Desert in southern Israel, approximately 13 kilometers (8 miles) southeast of the city of Dimona.

Live – Over 70 people injured in southern Israel following Iran missile barrage

At least forty people have been injured in the city of Arad in southern Israel following the latest Iranian missile attacks, the Magen David Adom said. Thirty others were also injured in an earlier attack on Dimona.

Iranian missiles hit residential areas in the city of Dimona, home to a key Israeli nuclear facility, injuring at least 20 people. The United Arab Emirates also announced on Saturday it was intercepting Iranian missile and drone attacks.

In a joint statement on Saturday, 22 countries condemned Iran over attacks on commercial shipping and civilian energy infrastructure and called for an immediate halt to threats and actions disrupting the Strait of Hormuz.

The attacks tore open the fronts of residential buildings and left large craters in the ground.

Israeli soldiers secured the scene after the missiles hit residential buildings in Arad.

Iran says it will allow Japanese ships to transit the Strait of Hormuz

Japan sources more than 90 percent of its crude oil imports from the Middle East and is heavily dependent on exports transiting the key waterway.

Iran says Japanese ships will be allowed to transit the Strait of Hormuz, in the latest sign that Tehran has started pursuing a selective blockade of the strategic waterway.

“We have not closed the strait. In our opinion, the strait is open. It is closed only to ships belonging to our enemies, countries that attack us. For other countries, ships can pass through the strait ,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Japan’s Kyodo News late on Friday.

Slipper became the most-capped Super Rugby player of all time on Friday night at GIO Stadium, reaching 203 caps to move clear of former All Black Wyatt Crockett (202).

It’s the sporting equivalent of the age-old Christmas conundrum: what do you get the person who has everything?

What memento should be presented to Brumbies prop James Slipper after he plays his 203rd Super Rugby game in Canberra this week?

That was a subject of conversation at Super Rugby Pacific head office recently, when planning was under way for Slipper’s imminent move to the top of the list for most games. In the Brumbies’ clash with the Chiefs at GIO Stadium on Friday night, the 37-year-old prop will pass New Zealand prop Wyatt Crockett, who played 202 games for the Crusaders between 2006 and 2018.

Sixers have chance to bounce back against tanking Kings

After a blowout loss to the Nuggets, the Sixers will be trying to pick up a win against the shorthanded, tanking Kings. What could go wrong?

Update: After initially being listed as doubtful for today’s game, Joel Embiid has now been downgraded to out.

After doing a nice job picking up two straights wins, including a solid performance against the Blazers on Sunday, it’s hardly surprising the Hospital Sixers faltered against the Nuggets on Tuesday. They were dismantled 124-96, falling behind 38-22 after the first quarter and never recovering from there.

If the Sixers are going to grab another win before any of their stars return, though, Thursday’s matchup against the Kings is one of their best opportunities. At just 18-52, Sacramento is firmly at the bottom of the Western Conference.

Nique Clifford Injury: Questionable for Thursday

Clifford is questionable to play Thursday against the 76ers due to soreness in his left hamstring.

We'll have a better idea on Clifford's status based on his activity level at shootaround, but if he is forced to the sidelines, there would be more minutes available for Daeqwon Plowden and Doug McDermott. Check back for official word on Clifford's status closer to Thursday's tipoff.

Iran war live: Qatar, Saudi energy sites attacked; Riyadh says trust gone

Iranian strikes come after Israel attacked Iran’s South Pars gasfield, with President Pezeshkian warning of ‘uncontrollable consequences’ that could ‘engulf the entire world’.

Trump’s claim of not knowing about the Iran gas field attack comes under question

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them anytime.

Washington: Donald Trump has distanced himself from an Israeli attack on a key Iranian gas field, while also issuing fresh threats, as tit-for-tat strikes on energy infrastructure escalate the Middle East conflict and propel oil prices even higher.

Iran’s South Pars offshore gas field – the Iranian sector of the world’s largest natural gas reserve – came under attack on Wednesday, prompting the regime in Tehran to retaliate by firing missiles at Qatari liquified natural gas sites and Israel.

As countries worldwide, including Australia, grapple with spiking oil prices, the attacks sent the price of Brent Crude above $US111 ($157) a barrel for the first time during the nearly three-week-old war.

Israel strikes Iran’s South Pars gasfield hours after forces kill intelligence minister

Welcome to our continuing live coverage of the US-Israel war on Iran and its effects on the region, the world and the global economy.

Donald Trump has threatened to “massively blow up” the entire South Pars gas field if Iran carries out any more retaliatory attacks on Qatar’s LNG gas facilities.

The US president also said in a post on his Truth Social platform that the US “knew nothing” about Israel’s Wednesday attack at the South Pars field, which Iran shares with Qatar, and neither did Doha. Trump said that “no more attacks will be made by Israel” on the field – unless Iran “decides to attack a very innocent, in this case, Qatar”.

‘It’s a different world now’: Albanese calls snap national cabinet meeting over fuel crisis

Get our breaking news email, free app or daily news podcast

The Albanese government has suffered a major legal blow against its monitoring of NZYQ-affected noncitizens after the high court ruled this morning its ankle monitoring and curfew regime were invalid.

The high court’s chief justice, Stephen Gageler AC, ruled the monitoring conditions imposed on the group of 300-plus noncitizens, often referred to as the NZYQ cohort, who were released from indefinite detention following an earlier ruling in November 2023 were invalid.

Following the release of more than 300 people from detention centres, the government passed laws to impose ankle bracelets and curfew on anyone risking community safety. Those laws were struck down by the high court in November 2024 before the government passed amendments to put them back in place until now.

An Iranian projectile has hit a road outside Al Minhad Air Base, which is used by Australian soldiers in the Middle East.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said no Australians were injured in the strike and that there was "minor damage" to buildings caused by a fire.

It is not clear if the projectile was a missile or a drone strike.

Iran has launched an attack on an air base in the Middle East where Australian soldiers are stationed, starting a fire that damaged Australian medical and accommodation facilities.

Iran war live updates: Donald Trump tells allies 'get involved quickly' in securing Strait of Hormuz

A tanker has been struck by an unknown projectile while anchored near the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump turned his ire on European allies who he claimed "weren't that enthusiastic" about helping the US secure the passage.

The threat of Iranian missiles and drones targeting oil tankers in the strait has effectively closed the shipping channel, amid the country's conflict with the US and Israel.

If you're just joining us, here's a quick recap of what has unfolded so far today:

Several US allies have rebuffed Donald Trump's ‌call to send warships to escort tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, drawing criticism from the US president, who accused Western partners of ingratitude after decades of support.

The US-Israeli war on Iran is in its third week with no end in sight.

The critical Strait of ‌Hormuz, through which 20 per cent of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas flow, remains largely closed off, raising energy prices and fears of inflation.

European countries reject Trump’s call for help to reopen strait of Hormuz

Leaders seek a diplomatic solution despite US president’s threat of ‘a very bad future’ for Nato unless it provides warships

European countries have ruled out sending warships to the strait of Hormuz, despite threats from Donald Trump that Nato faces “a very bad future” if members fail to help reopen the vital waterway.

Germany ruled out participation in any military activity, including efforts to reopen the strait. “There was never a joint decision on whether to intervene. That is why the question of how Germany might contribute militarily does not arise. We will not do so,” the chancellor, Friedrich Merz, said.
